What's the process of a FFL holder sending a firearm thru USPS???

I'm trying to get my LGS to send my frame in to get stippled, but they insist that I don't need to send it thru them, either because their lazy or they don't know the process itself.

Can someone walk me thru as the FFL so I can in turn walk them thru it?

    Thanks in advance!

Why do you need an FFL to do this for you? Minus the USPS where only an FFL can use them.

Going thru a FFL is much cheaper, I don't really live to close to a UPS center. Also I'd have to drive 50plus miles to get there then send it next day air $66.66

Versus have the FFL send it for ??? Hopefully less than $30

Some FFLs don't want the hassle. They are not just going to charge you for shipping either. They will charge you a fee for doing it.

They will log it in as gunsmithing and then become liable for the gun since it will be sent back to them.

The flat rate boxes are quite cheap and often the regional flat rate boxes (only available online) are even cheaper.

For a FFL to ship a handgun USPS they need to fill out a form 1508. It is best to have two copies and keep one. There is no requirement to bring the box to the post office, but many don't know that.

It would be listed as gunsmithing so that it can be returned to you without additional paperwork.

Where do you live? Perhaps there is another FFL that is willing to ship for you?

For the FFL, log it into their book, fill out the shipping forms, pack it and send it off. Get it returned, return it to you, log it out of their book. Pretty simple, but seems that many FFLs don't want/need the business. It's only paperwork, but there is some liability.

Instead of a LGS, find a gunsmith. This is likely more common for them.

Or call FedEx for a pickup.

The problem with that is the FFL has to be willing to receive it and return it as well, but it might be possible.
