I've looked, but can't find an answer for my specific set of circumstances. My mom lives in Nevada. She is going to gift me an off CA roster pistol. I've read all I can find about the shipping and FFL, but here's my specific scenario. If she brings it with her, (she comes back a couple times a year to swap vehicles) can I just fill out the BOF4544A form and send it in with the $19 check and be done? No mags, no threaded barrel, no assault weapon, just a regular pistol available almost everywhere else. Any info from the knowledgeable is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Intrafamilial Transfer from Out Of State
The following statement is true.
The preceding statement was false.Tags: None -
No.
Interstate transfer, by Federal law, must go through an FFL. Call around locally to see if any will accept walk-ins that way; that is legal, but it seems a lot of CA FFLs don't want to do business that way.
You might mention where you are in CA; possibly someone might recommend a good FFL for such transfers.ARCHIVED Calguns Foundation Wiki here: http://web.archive.org/web/201908310...itle=Main_Page
Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good! -

I suggest you contact Anthony at UG Imports-he is in Fremont.
You'll need to set up an appointment in advance.
You can have her ship the firearms to him as well with a letter and copy of her DL. You will need to visit 2 times like a normal firearm purchase, but your mom (if in person) only needs to go one time (when he takes custody of the firearms). I would email him and explain your exact situation as you did above.Comment

I came here to ask this exact question.
The FFL I normally used turned me away today for this exact scenario. Dad is in town, has two guns he wants to give me. The FFL stated their system is unable to scan the out-of-state ID, so they are incapable of completing the transfer.
I THINK the FFL was wrong , but I'm not sure what to think if it's some type of system limitation.Comment
