Intrafamilial Transfer from Out Of State

I've looked, but can't find an answer for my specific set of circumstances. My mom lives in Nevada. She is going to gift me an off CA roster pistol. I've read all I can find about the shipping and FFL, but here's my specific scenario. If she brings it with her, (she comes back a couple times a year to swap vehicles) can I just fill out the BOF4544A form and send it in with the $19 check and be done? No mags, no threaded barrel, no assault weapon, just a regular pistol available almost everywhere else. Any info from the knowledgeable is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    No.

Interstate transfer, by Federal law, must go through an FFL. Call around locally to see if any will accept walk-ins that way; that is legal, but it seems a lot of CA FFLs don't want to do business that way.

You might mention where you are in CA; possibly someone might recommend a good FFL for such transfers.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

I knew if anyone would be able to answer, it would be you. Thanks. I live in San Bruno, right near SFO.

I suggest you contact Anthony at UG Imports-he is in Fremont.
Fremont Premier Firearms Transfer Dealer, Guns, Ammo, Transfers, Online Orders

You'll need to set up an appointment in advance.

You can have her ship the firearms to him as well with a letter and copy of her DL. You will need to visit 2 times like a normal firearm purchase, but your mom (if in person) only needs to go one time (when he takes custody of the firearms). I would email him and explain your exact situation as you did above.

I came here to ask this exact question.

The FFL I normally used turned me away today for this exact scenario. Dad is in town, has two guns he wants to give me. The FFL stated their system is unable to scan the out-of-state ID, so they are incapable of completing the transfer.

I THINK the FFL was wrong , but I'm not sure what to think if it's some type of system limitation.

Its not a transfer. They FFL takes the gun onto their inventory books. Then "sells" it to you. PPT's can only be done between residences of California. This is also why they can charge you any amount they want for this service as it is not a PPT with fixed pricing.

Yep, Anthony will do it. I have had my mom ship guns to him and had her bring guns personally when she visited. Both ways are treated the same. DROS/4473/10-days all exemptions apply (CCW, ffl03+coe, etc) and the roster does not matter.

                Update:

Cordelia Gun Exchange took care of my situation. Call it a transfer or sale, or whatever.

Dad walked in with the guns, they took a photocopy of his out of state DL, and the rest of the process was more or less the same as any other gun deal.
