Change of Address "Frame Only" question on CFARS/AIS

    Hi Everyone,

On the CFARS/AIS website, I am currently updating my address because I recently moved and I am at the section where it asks about my firearm on record. It's asking "Frame Only" Yes or No.

It's just a Glock 17 I bought at the local gun store and no modifications to it. I'm not sure what Frame only means for this instance and whether to say Yes or No. I attached a screenshot of what Yes and No looks like. When you say NO it asks for the caliber. Could you please let me know? Thank you for your time.

If it truly is the frame only, there is no 'caliber'. If it's the complete firearm with slide and barrel, then answer "No" and fill in the caliber.

Are we supposed to update our address for firearms we own, if we move?

The residence address on your ID must match your AFS record. If you changed your residence address with DMV, you'll need to update your personal info at CFARS.

When I moved within the same county, I changed my residence address online with DMV (my ID has my PO Box) and at CFARS. I only updated the info on my CCW guns.

After doing this, and getting an e-mail from CFARS to verify, all was well.

If you have a CCW contact your IA for instructions.

          No.

          It's voluntary.

Most common reason it is done is because the person wants to buy ammo in CA.
The Standard Ammunition Eligibility Check (AFS match) requires the person's address listed in AFS to match what is listed on their valid CA DL/ID.

Another method of updating a person's address in AFS is to buy a firearm from a CA FFL dealer.
^The DROS process updates the address.
