WTK-please-re- doing PPTon AR/AK Pistol brought in state by person who moved here

Hello all, I have a quandary going on. I have a line on a FAL 'Pistol' that a guy has brought in to Cali when he moved from out of state. the Pistol is currently Cali compliant so now worries of actual 'AW' BS BUT this is the issue-

the FAL Pistol was built on a bare receiver that was BOUGHT as a 'receiver', you know- not pistol, not rifle, just 'receiver(oh to be back in the USA..) , so you know it could be built as either one.. SO since he built it up as a pistol BEFORE moving here but since it is not registered to him AS A PISTOL, how would a PPT go down?

Do it as a PPT handgun transfer so the thing 'officially begins its life as a pistol in Cali' , dont bother mentioning that the receiver was just bought AS SUCH-a bare receiver- and then built up into a pistol ?

Since it is already here and built, no need in a PPT to do a SSE type of thing, does not need a 'sled' in other words?

SINCE the receiver was NEVER SOLD /REGISTERED as a PISTOL, what if any flags may show up in the stupid jail time??

Thank you all for your meaningful input on this, i would like this item but dont want a migraine while getting it.... plenty of time for excedrin when at the range with the beast..... has an 8" barrel!?!?!

Thing was he was supposed to register his pistols upon 60 days of moving into the state via the personal handgun importer form. You may want to have him do the Volreg form before the transfer takes place because many ffl's will not do the transfer. ( I have been in your situation before except i was the importer, no ffl would do the transfer for me. I am aware that it is not required by law, however)
Anyways, call your ffl you were planning to do the transfer at and see if they are okay with the situation. Sounds like an awesome pistol, good luck.

Just make sure the receiver is not AW list by name.
Many people have bought pistols that were owned by California residents before the brady bill was enacted and therefore were never registered. The state only cares that it be registered now when it's transferred.
