    DOJ Safe Handguns list?

I'm aware of the general tenets of the "safe handguns list" but I'm curious as to how it came into being. As a gun accumulator, I'm prohibited from "importing" lots of classic firearms into California, and continually notice the "no sales to California" rescriction on internet gun sites.

Who proposed this law? Was there some " event" that caused it to be proposed? What is its effect - have gun-related accidents declined and is the law necessary and effective? How might one mount a challenge to its usefulness? Isn't in "restraint of trade" in terms of interstate commerce?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

The primary motive was to eliminate the pistols made and sold by Davis, Jennings, Bryco, and Raven by having handguns tested. The idea was that those guns would fail the testing process, and be eliminated from the mean streets of California. The original bill had all sorts of demension restricts on both semi auto pistols and revolvers that were later removed. Since passage, loaded chamber indicators, magazine safeties, and, now, micro stamping have been added. A lawsuit is pending to nullify the roster, but it's been pending for quite a while since the Liberal judges are delaying decisions until the Liberal legislature has outlawed firearms in California.

The Safe Handgun list is in place simply as another way to harass gun owners and make it harder for someone to get a gun in this state, period.

CA hates gun owners and wants to make it as difficult and time consuming to buy, sell and own guns as possible.

          H

How does microstamping make a gun safe?

I may feel a little better if they just called it what it really is, a set of parameters so that no gun manufacturer can produce a new handgun and sell it in California because the rest of the country is smart enough to not point a gun with no magazine and not clear the chamber before test firing the trigger at their dumb friend, and drop their gun when it's loaded, and think the gun isn't loaded when there is no magazine in the gun list.

Did I forget that having serial numbers, and owner identifying info on spent casings will make us all safer because most people that commit crimes with guns know not to leave fingerprints on casings.
Rant over.......for now.....untill I start thinking about all of the new laws being rammed down our Californian throats....
          I like guns.

            It doesn't.

The safe handgun list is and has always been intended as a mechanism for banning the maximum number of guns for sale in California as is possible for the legislature to pass and get signed by the governor.

And the "unsafe handgun laws" is the result of what happens when gun owners do not stand together and only look out for their own self interests.

I thought it only placed restrictions on what FFLs could sell...

Loaded chamber indicators make a hand gun way more safe.
