Legal to install paddle magazine release on CETME or PTR 91 rifle?

I am in AZ, I am not in CA.

Would it be legal to install a paddle magazine release on a CETME or PTR-91 rifle? I know this would be a nice feature for those with featureless rifles.

I remember reading somewhere on a forum that the paddle magazine release meant your rifle could accept the full auto trigger. A big no-no according to the ATF.

The short answer is yes, you can have a paddle release on HK series rifles. It must be done a certain way so that the FA trigger packs are still unable to be installed. HK Forum has all the info on doing the conversion and staying legal. I have thought about doing it to my featureless SAR-8, but I dont have the tools for that DIY project. It would help with magazine changes on the clock in the gun games.

If done correctly, yes. The original HK design used the front push pin (evil third hole) for a dual purpose to also mount the paddle release. A paddle release can be added while preserving the semi auto shelf.
In short, you have to drill a blind (not all the way through), undersized hole, properly located, for a small pin, and if you have the PTR or HK type shelf, mill the clearance for the bushing. Install a bushing in the paddle, pin it in, and weld over it the pin.
If you don't know what you are doing, or aren't competent with that kind of work (milling, drilling, welding), have somebody else do it. Drilling the hole all the way through is a no-no.
Several people do this upgrade commercially, here is one: http://www.triggerwork.net/paddlemag.html

Or you can just buy one of these, no milling or machine work needed: http://www.hkparts.net/shop/pc/HK-91...h-128p2791.htm
