Which brings us back to the original question:
    Q: How do I explain a 10/30 magazine?

    A: "That there's a 10-round magazine".
I'll illustrate this with a hypothetical dialog:
Officer: "Is that a 30-round magazine?"

    You: "No, it's a 10-round magazine."

Officer: "It looks like a 30-round magazine."

    You: "No, it's a 10-round magazine."

Understood. I was just pointing out that the answer to the original question seems bafflingly obvious to me.

One reason why I don't run a PG on my guns. I have too many Hi caps to play with. I've been questioned by LEO's and my canned answer is "Do you keep receipts for something you paid for with cash 15 years ago officer?"

The others, well......they just never learn.

Invest in a farking gun case or, barring that, a $2 army surplus wool blanket.

Not to mention, if the OP had had any real trouble explaining how it was a 10 round magazine, he probably wouldn't be posting to the forum or have access to a computer right now.

Long story short, I had to do a lot of explaining. So I'm thinking of getting a 10/10 mag and removing the pistol grip any time I'm transporting my rifle so it looks non scary and CA compliant/neutered...
Why do i get the feeling this never happened?
PS. if you dont want cops to see your gun while you drive, dont point it out the window at them.

Tell em "if you can squeeze more than 10 rounds in this here mag, you can go ahead and haul me off to jail, otherwise (you make up what you want)"

Keep your firearms put away while transporting them. If they can't see them, they can't inspect them.

Clearly what you had was legal or you would be asking how to get a lawyer. It sounds to me like you educated a law enforcement officer and did us all a favor. Good job.

Just keep your guns put away and don't violate traffic rules and you shouldn't have to do that again.

Just tell them it's not yours, an insurgent threw it through your window a mile back, and then he rolled up your pants and taped that 10" fixed blade to your calf too!

i was transporting my WASR-10 from an apartment building to the other side of the street on a busy street during the day...i read in the law about you are required to open carry a long gun, so i did just that, (also no wonder why cops are very suspicious as who carries an AK47 looking gun with full 30 round mag ? )

walked and put the rifle into the back of an old Integra...which is a hatchback, the trunk can be seen in plain view and it didnt help my case that the Integra had one of those fart cannons on the exhaust.

What I guess happened was, he saw me cross the street (legally, i used the crosswalk) to put my AK in the trunk, then drove off...then what ended up happening was the cop saw me he asked me "well i saw you holding a gun, pop the trunk, let me see. Also license/registration please. are you on probation or parole. do you have anything illegal on your person or in this car that i need to know about"

So in the mean time, I'm buying an actual 10/10 round mag and removing the pistol grip whenever I transport my weapon, and I will be wearing khaki pants with belt and a nice polo collared shirt with black dress shoes whenever i transport anything firearms related. I dont look exactly like "one of you guys"

what saved my *** was that I had the Sac PD memo, the Flowchart, my DROS record/receipt, my Henderson Defense receipt with me. I keep all those paperwork with me. I also kept a copy of the email stating that they put a 10/30 mag on my gun... also because i have a clean/no record.

Also, DedEye, I PMed you my phone number, feel free to school me on everything related.

Let me make sure I'm getting this straight, you were walking around outside a residential neighborhood carrying an AK-47?
