To me, it smells like a combination of human body odor and urine. If you get a rank boar, you will smell it while cooking the meat and likely taste it too. That is why I generally avoid shooting the big boys. You can actually test the "funk" quality of a big boar's meat by cutting off a bit of fat and throwing it in the frying pan. If it stinks, it is sausage or dog food quality. If it doesn't stink, it should be decent eating.
