Could also be a return with someone swapping it with a known counterfeit.

    It does happen.

Lots of ChiCom and Packi fakes online. Buck has a system to check if what you are buying is real. I found a "deal" on a lot of 10 knives. I knew within 24 hours they were fakes.
If you have a question about a possible counterfeit knife, please email a clear photo of the knife and box (if you have it) to counterfeit@buckknives.com.

Never ever buy Spydercos on Amazon.
It was just an old plywood boat, with a '75 Johnson, with electric choke. A young boy, two hands on the wheel, I can't replace the way it made me feel.

Chicom counterfeiting on Amazon has gotten so bad that I'll expand that to say you shouldn't buy anything with a potential for counterfeiting from Amazon. There was a story awhile back about Amazon unwittingly hocking fake oven mitts and people getting--both literally and figuratively--burned when they tried to use them.

If you do buy from Amazon, use a credit card with chargeback protection so that you have some remedy in the event you get a counterfeit and Amazon doesn't make it right.

Glad to hear that Amazon is honoring the refund in OP's case.

I see those ads on Amazon and eBay also. They just seem too good to be true so I stay away. When it comes to knives like that, I always buy locally and from a trusted retailer.

Make your way or the amazon
on chat. Try by visiting here https://www.amazon.com/gp/cs?ref_=navm_ftr_cu#landing.

Then finding your item. Start with telling the chat you want to speak to someone. When you get someone on chat, tell them you wanted your money back and. It store credit. They will fix it. Also tell them the item is fake and counterfeit, and they will remove the inventory from being sold and launch and investigation.

They won’t know until someone tells them

If you inform Amazon they will pull the listings and even the seller, but those guys are like cockroaches and spring back up as a new seller pretty quickly. I don't think Amazon can keep up.

Check the seller. There are sellers on amazon that are certified dealers.

$50 for $87 (MSRP) isn't unreasonable if its a close out or unicorn unpopular missing latest features, return etc.

Amazon reviews largely fake, or done on legit merch then knowingly applied by Bezos to 3rd party vendors selling fakes, with just enough Plausible Deniability to keep Bezos out of prison in most nations? Imagine mah shock. Its a numbas game. Big % of people wont be able to tell the diff. Most Spyderco knives are probably bought by Grandads for tennybopper grandkids or chair bound executives for letter openers.

Got fake Vaughn rigger's axe VIA Walmart "vendor" about $25 less than H-D price.

Someone should do a Class Action, not for the money but public shaming, and maybe a good look at inner working of Amazon.

I was leery of https://www.temu.com/ but I hear is legit, so I guess I'll risk giving them a low value Credit Card's #s. If you are going to get cheap, but serviceable, Chinese stuff why not pay the right price?

On related note, the same Google that does election interference and censors legit doctors over legit science about Vaxx is now about 1/3rd obviously scam ads targeting dumb trusting consumers with "almost too good to be true". If I can detect these looking at my phone's Google news while sitting on toilet it means Google management is fully aware and could stop it but wont. Of course 3/4 of their "news feed" is about same quality.

Google ads are about 1/3 online stores I've bought from before, 1/3 various tech firms in my areas of interest general info ads, and about 1/3 clearly some scam. Old Skool paper newspapers never had a huge % of obviously criminal scam ads. Does Section 230 Protection somehow cover scam ads where Google is PAID and accepts the ads? Can they hide behind "our system is automated"? I'm assuming Facebook ads are same.

I wouldn't trust that much these days. How hard is it to become a NEWLY minted "certified dealer" for most products. I'm guessing most manufactures are pretty eager to hand those out, and it would take a lot for Bad Press to get back to them and even if there is lots of chain of custody and they could blame "one bad apple employee we fired" etc.

Maybe I should invent a new QR code Big Brother system for verifying legit merch. You buy online or in store can scan code and that bounces to my Service (that factories have subscribed to) for a unique QR code. Every knife has its own code, and if that code can only be used once, and has additional hidden secret "finger prints".
