Hello neighbors,
I wanted to share my experience buying a used gun from Bass Pro/Cabelas online.
Sunday afternoon I was looking at Cabelas gun library. I found a Marlin 1894 that I really liked for a fair market price. It was at the store in Las Vegas.
I picked up the phone and within 10 minutes the rifle was mine. They said "it will go out tomorrow to the Bass Pro in Rocklin CA."
Thursday afternoon I got a call saying my rifle was in and ready to start the paperwork. I went there first thing Friday.
No lines, I walked right up and within an hour I was on my way home. I could have gotten out sooner but the guys helping me were both lever gun guys so we BS'ed a lot.
The up side:
Bass Pro ships the guns in a hard shell padded case. The case stays at the store and I have provide a case when I pick it up.
No additional delivery fee. The gun is shipped to your local store for free.
No add on DROS handling fee. I paid for just the DROS and no mark up for the store.
I probably saved $100-$200 dollars by not shipping to to my normal FFL.
I asked about an old S&W revolver at the store in Denver (I think) that was well past the 50 year old mark and if they would be willing to DROS it to me here even if it is off roster. "No problem."
The down side:
They require an 11 day wait. Don't know why.
The gun came with a lever lock and I was not allowed to open the action to inspect the bore with a bore light.
So I will definitely buy from them again.
