I used Brownells Aluma-Hyde II in Coyote a few years ago to paint a Bushnell Holosight to match the Magpul FDE furniture on Mrs. PutPut's rifle. It was a great match though the sheen was more satin than the matte furniture.
Since then Brownells has started selling a Magpul FDE version as well as Coyote. The product reviews were confusing since some people were posting that the New Coyote was a great match and some were posting the Magpul FDE version didn't match.
I couldn't find any good writups online so I thought I'd buy a can of each and give it a go.
It seems to me that the Magpul FDE is a re-brand of the Old Coyote and it still matches Magpul parts very well. The confusion in the reviews seems to be valid since the difference between New Coyote and Magpul FDE is more subtle than I thought it would be.
The new version of Coyote is about the same shade, but it is greener/grayer than the Old Coyote\Magpul FDE. To my eye it looks like a lighter version of the discontinued Magpul Foliage.
I had to try a lot of combo's of backgrounds and lighting to get a good pic of the difference.
In this pic we have Magpul grip, stock, and rail protectors. The Bushnell scope is painted the Old Coyote. The magazine on the left is New Coyote and the mag on the right is Magpul FDE.
