I wouldn't trust mine. I have a Springfield compact that just doesn't run right.

When I find a combination of ammo and magaizines it seems to favor, the next time out I have issues!

So for me, it is just a range toy.

I bought it used, unknown round count. It's a weird out of production model, and I just don't trust it. I'll get another one one sometime in the future, and hopefully it will be a different experience.

First you are chopping up historic vintage rifles and sticking them in cheap and nasty looking plastic "dildo" stocks that look like some kind of futuristic sex toy that gay space aliens stick up each other's butts.
Next thing you know, you think "Deliverance" is a love story.

Do you have the pancake style followers on your mags? Those things are horrible and should be banned. That was another reason for my 1911
Malfunctions. I got rid of those mags.

Finally...!!! After more than a year, got to take out my Springfield MCO, which was my first 1911, for some TLC... (wanted to do it sooner, but was really held up at work)

Yeah - feels so new to me... Frankly, I have forgotten how it actually feels... For one, this thing shoots high (am using 200GR). And for whatever reason, why I never changed the stock Trijicon sights!?! The sights are too SLOW (no contrast, too fat, too much glare) and too IMPRECISE (front is too fat, and rear is too tight).

Not only that - I felt the grip angle too unnatural, hence, taking a tad longer to get sights/target from low ready or from retention (drawing from the holster is not allowed). Asked the range owner if he had a bigger mainspring housing that I could borrow ---> yeah, much better!!!

I am feeling a renewed love for the 1911...

John Wick was given a 1911 because it only holds 7 rounds, not because it's unreliable.

He managed to find a couple of spare mags off some dead guys, I guess they fitted just fine too.

I EDC an XD9SC but my SA Marine Corp Operator (the off roster one) is on my permit. My older SA 1911-A1 used to be on my permit.

When I got the operator, I shot it once to make sure it went bang. Then I built up my single stack belt, replaced that stupid internal lock, added a small mag well and started competing with it. No hiccups at all.

Fired bunch of HP ammo through it and it was great. Put a TLR-1 on the rail and now it's my HD gun if I am not wearing my XD.

After a match I will wipe it down and oil the trigger bar, mag release, slide rails, hammer pins, end of barrel at bushing and the top of barrel along ejection point to help with lock up.

Every 3 matches it gets cleaned proper.

I bet my life and that of my family on that gun and I am totally fine with that.

Don't let nostalgia and 1911 fanboi mentality influence your decision on something as important as a handgun to stake your life on. Guys in SOF aren't carrying 1911's into combat anymore. They're carrying this...

Keep in mind that Chris Kyle carried his personal TRP in Iraq. He could have carried any pistol he wanted.

Or you can just get a G19/G17 that works 100% out of the box and not have to worry about any of that nonsense.

True, but now that I am not confronting people and have kids wanting piggyback rides and living in my household I want something with a manual safety. Sure, a Glock carried with the trigger covered in a quality holster is safe, but things happen. This year even a special forces member shot himself with his Glock accidentally. In other instances clothing has gotten inside holsters and pulled the trigger on a Glock.

If I ever am tired, distracted, etc or for whatever human reason violate my rule that a loaded gun is either strapped to my person or locked up, I want a second layer of safety preventing a tragedy. The trade off is that I have to train so frequently that I subconsciously swipe the safety off every time I clear leather. People can make fun of me all they want, that it the risk/benefit balance I have chosen. If someone else has a different plan, good for them.

Chris Kyle was also a stolen valor piece of poop that thought taking violent mentally ill people to a shooting range was great therapy.

Yes, in his book he claimed a Silver Star and two or three BSM w/valor he never earned. He also passed off urban legend/war stories that everyone heard around the burn barrel as personal stories. I know these stories are BS because I heard them while Kyle was still in boot camp.

He also slandered Jessie Ventura in the most horrible of ways and actually lost a lawsuit for it. That doesn't seem like a big deal, but slander against a public figure like Ventura NEVER prevails in court, so that should give you an idea how egregious his lies were. He made up these lies to sell more books.

I've got my sources, and he grossly inflated his kill count in order to claim the title of "top US sniper" in history, but he could never be challenged on his claim of confirmed kills because most special operations are still classified secret or TS.

He claimed he shot looters during Katrina from the top of the Super Dome. Which is just patently absurd. He claimed to have shot or subdued an attempted car jacking, that never happened.

In multiple interviews he claimed the majority of the proceeds from his book were going to help disabled veterans. Instead he bought a bunch of land and built a private shooting range. There's nothing wrong with that, but when you represent that range as a tax exempt charitable organization to help veterans you are a d-bag.

There's more out there I'm forgetting, but the guy genuinely was a terrible person and nothing like the tortured sacrificing soul that Bradley Cooper played in the movie.
