    Remington 887 Nitro Mag?

I am looking into buying the tactical variant as I like the extended magazine and the way the gun looks. But I am wondering since the 18.5 barrel is almost no good for shooting skeet could I purchase a longer barrel to use it for skeet? Also owners of the gun how do you like it and are there alot of aftermarket parts for it?

Mistake. The weapon was built for the Sporting Market because Nova was cutting into Remington's share. It was a flop and even won a Dog of the Year award. So Remington said, " let's put some tacti-fool mess on it and call the 887 Tactical 'cause those guys will buy anything based on looks."

You will be better served with an 870 or 500.

        The 870 is Whatever..........????????????

I would venture to say that if you see a shotgun in a police cursier there is over and 80% chance it is an 870. So whatever the 870 is, it is certainly the top choice of the people that put their life on the line with a shotgun.

You don't care for the 500 and the whatever 870 yet you are looking at a piece of crap 887. Hope you get what you want.

The 870 is a good gun, there are others that I like too

I have looked at the 590 but it priced too high for me. Though I did go on remington's web site and the 870 express tactical caught my eye. If I get a longer barrel for trap shooting could I switch it with the 18.5 one?

Absolutely. That's easy to do. In fact, some 870s are even sold with alternate barrels, as a package.

I recently went through the same ordeal while looking for a good pump gun, I ended up with a nova tactical and could not be happier. If you are looking for a trap gun than I would not get a tactical without the barrel at least being threaded for chokes and even then it will leave a lot to be desired in that respect. Benelli barrels are very expensive so buying another barrel is not cost effective. What is the main purpose of the gun?

                Main Purpose

The main purpose of the gun would be a home defense gun and a shtf gun. Though I prefer a 20 gauge due to less recoil, 12 gauge is the most popular gauge in America and available at any sporting goods retailer. I want a shotgun to be durable and long lasting so that is why I considered the 887 but the 870 is also very reliable and durable.

                  And there it is..

Man I would've bet my salary for a year this was coming from JD.. Whatever brand you decide on is obviously your choice..but I'm gonna take a wild guess in that you haven't looked at AI&P's website to see what JD does with an 870. My first shotgun was a Mossberg500 mainly due to price. For my second one I'm definitely going to save up the money and get an 870 from AI&P Tactical. Just my .02

I liked the look of the 887 as well as the features but once I handled it that was the deal breaker, the action did not feel right and overall the gun had a very cheap feel. Some people attribute that to the polymer coating but after landing on a nova that feels incredibly well made that is also coated, that is not the problem. I like the 870, 500/590, and anything benelli, but I would not trust a 3 gun match to an 887 never mind mine or my family's safety in a home defense situation

Yeah I have yet to handle either of the guns

Ill drive over to turner's this weekend and see if they have them in stock and see which one handles best, I will also take a look at the nova tactical model if they have it in stock.

I have an 887. I bought it when it first came out. There are absolutely no accessories for it...bummer. It does have a cheap feel to it, but it's never let me down. Remington marketed the M887 as a waterfowl gun and I'm sure it would work well as one. I always have 3.5" Mags around just to watch my friends hurt themselves when they shoot them. If I could go back, I would have definitely got the 870. Live and learn I guess.
