"match saver" on a Beretta 1301 Tactical Mod 2

I don't do any matches so won't need to save any, but I do like the functionality of match savers, and put one on my Beretta 1301 Tactical Mod 2 (this post is not applicable to non-Mod 2 versions with any other fore ends). The issue I ran into is that the fore end is a two-piece design similar to the A300 Ultima Patrol, and locating the match saver in the optimal position spans the two-pieces - see second pic. The Mod 2 is apparently so new I could not find a parts schematic so the first pic shows an A300 Ultima Patrol with the spacer that goes between the action and the fore end (on the Mod 2 it does not have the sleeve/tube attached).

So the issue is that to dissemble the Mod 2 for cleaning, the spacer and fore end cannot come off as a unit - they come off separately. To resolve that, I custom cut the included two-sided foam tape to follow the contour of the dividing line to adhere the rear half of the match saver to the spacer. I was skeptical that the adhesion would not be sufficient, but it feels very solid. I will follow-up here if it fails.

Side Note - I could have attached the match saver with screws, but I did not want to drill holes in my new gun, there appeared to be insufficient clearance to thru-bolt, and my experience with two-sided foam tapes has been positive.

I don't have a "Match Saver" accessory or a Beretta 1301 mod2, but thanks for the info should I ever come across someone with the same issue. I feel the frustration of putting a universal aftermarket accessory onto one's firearm.

For me, I'd likely just go without it &/or put it onto another shotgun where the mounting might work (if the 2-sided tape ever later fail).

I've never used or trained with a "Match Saver" but only seen them used on videos.

Just get a 2 hole Velcro shell Holder and attach it to the gun with Velcro Tape.

That way you can put it on or take it off at will. You don't need this type of stuff permanently attached to your gun.

In My case the guns are all set up with Velcro tape on the left side of the receiver adn when being used for HD or just living in a Case they have the 6 hole SS attached so the gun is grab and go.

In a class or at a 3 gun shoot the SS is removed and I feed the gun with shells carried on my Vest with Cal Comp Shell Holders which hold 6 each and a Dump Bag for Bulk Carry of Extra Ammo and Empty SS's and Magazines.

This way I can configure the gun to do anything I want Quickly and Easily.

      Hope this helps

OP. Just drill the 1/8 inch hole. I use matchsaverz that has the nut bolt with Velcro to keep it from moving .
I prefer the Aridus handguard and the matchsaverz just attaches to the back of the slot already there. No holes to drill.

Yeah, the guys at Beretta are not shooters or shotgun gamers so they really don?t plan ahead. I guess we can thank them for putting the A300 forearm on a 1301 tactical after 18 months of everybody lusting after it but in that decision they had a committee of suits that didn?t know what we really needed. So drill the hole.

Appreciate the comments. If my current set-up for the match-saver fails (read as "falls off"), I still won't drill baby drill on my gun - I'll adapt Randy's comment and simply use Velcro. The fuzzy half mounted on the forend will be the full mount length but cut along the separation line so the spacer and forend can be easily removed separately. It should function as well as a monolithic strip.

Yes it did, the 2-sided tape has held securely thus far.

Briley is the answer. It puts the match saver right where it belongs.

Ah, I see...the Briley 3Gun M-LOK Handguard. Since my 1301 Mod 2 has a pretty serviceable handguard, and cost a big pocketful of money already, I don't think I'll be buying a $350 part to move the march saver 1.0".

                      Nice handguard though...
