fair enuff...what is the accuracy of the mini14 then in terms of MOA?
and you "read" that the AR is more accurate so it must be fact ?

pretty sure i stated this 100 times today but.... the marine corps rifle team shoots the M14 to 1000 yards with open sights

maybe your reading the same people over and over in the wrong threads, the same ones who say delton and DPMS is just as good as colt

and yes....i have delton and DPMS products, im just asking

do you wish to shoot targets that are larger ? or smaller ? than the "broad side" of a barn ?

just playing....this question doesnt even need to be asked honestly, its like comparing a mosin nagant to a M1A im just saying. well maybe not that bad....but you feel me

no it wouldnt, and no he shouldnt, and no...not by a long shot is a "scaled down" version
mini 14's were and always will be "ranch rifles" typically a 3-4 MOA gun compared to a M1a that should be 1 MOA in its WORST example

Typically I can shoot groups with my Mini half the size you stated in your above post with peep sights much better than broad side of barn. I don't have an M1A but a couple of my friends do. I do have M1 Garand's, M1Carbine's & have compared them to my Mini & friends M1A. Only similarity Mini has to M1carbine is gas system operates similar other wise the rest of it is more like M1A & Garand. As far as AR goes I was being smartass about OP 's post#1. You know keeping AR style but which of these two should I get rid of. Did you read post #9?

The expense of ammo is only determined by how often you shoot. So, selling the M1a because its costly to shoot is not a valid arguement. BTW, reloading doesn't guarantee any savings on shooting!

If you must sell one of them, it should be the one that will not handle ALL of the potential tasks for which it may be needed.

the m1a is my choice, but, ammo is more expensive, as is the rifle.... if this is your first purchase, you might consider the mini

I voted to sell M1a as the $ can the be used to buy a Garand or two!! Love my mini, especially after upgrading the irons, the broadside of a barn and 2 MOA comments are just the musings of AR fanboys. Bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, bang, PING!! nothing like that from a commercial remake of a military arm. YMMV

Wow, this escalated quickly. As far as systems go, let's just be honest that the M1A and Mini-14 are similar enough in design to be considered different versions of the same gun.

Both semi-automatic, gas operated, rotating bolt, piston-driven actions that feed from a box magazine.

The fact that I can disassemble a M1A simply because I have owned a Mini-14 should effectively put this argument to rest. It is like arguing that Browning's 1911-22 isn't a shrunken 1911 because it uses some different, parts, again similar enough.

The Mini 14 will likely never be as accurate as the M1A simply because the cartridges used. A .308, as a heavier, slightly slower bullet tends to perform more consistently than a lighter, slightly faster .223. They both have limitations on absolute accuracy due to the gas system design on both rifles. The M1A is generally manufactured to higher quality than the Mini 14, if they were making $700 M1A's, and $1500 Mini 14's you would have closer accuracy from either respectively.

Before people went crazy and prices went up a Mini 14 for $600-$700 was every bit as accurate as a comparable $600-$700 AR-15. However, the direct impingement system on most AR-15s lends themselves to greater potential accuracy than typical piston style systems due to the barrel harmonics.

Are you saying you shoot better than 2 MOA consistently with a Ranch Rifle? I know this is the internet and all, but I just don't believe it.
