    Should I go M110 clone?

Thanks to How It's Made and them showing the makings of the Knights M110.

The AR 308 build seed has been planted in my head again...

Should I give in and start or pass..? I've always wanted one to swap with my 700 build and have a nice semi auto platform for the steel ranges. But then it always makes me think well what if I skip the AR and just buy my GAP A5 already.. Either way I will be buying one of these in the near future.. Probably around tax time.

And what's the average range of these? I remember a while back on the hide guys were arguing on them not being any good past 700 yards.. What kind of accuracy you AR 308 guys lookin at...

So should I pull the trigger? Or look into building something else? Opinions and ideas welcome..

If you are going to build a true replica using correct parts from Knights Armament, I honestly think you'd be better off just getting a LaRue OBR in 7.62. It will be more accurate, and will likely cost less. If dead set on an M-110 clone, I'd opt for the M-110C over the standard M-110. The carbine model just has much better lines IMHO. The lighter weight is nice too. Also, the magpul stock will be more durable than the adjustable A-2 stock of the full sized M-110. From what I've read, the adjustable butt of the Knights A-2 stock is prone to failure under recoil.

I made a M110 clone in 5.56. I guess it doesn't really make it a clone anymore, but it's fun to shoot and gets a lot of attention at the range! I even had a faux 14" can made.

I saw that episode and the same thought crossed my mind. I've been kicking around building a .308AR for some time. I must be getting serious about it because I'm about ready to sell my FAL to finance it.

People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

This! I must search youtube to find this episode! I was just watching it on the science channel on demand since the debates were horrible.

And back on topic a buddy of mine has an AR 308 with (I think, dont quote me lol) a Rainer Arms Ultra match on it. He has fun with it but as far as range i couldn't tell you but its pretty accurate out to 300 yds.

Yea I've saved up about 2500 to fix my street bike and added a 308 lower to a cart and almost ordered it..... But I really think I need to think about this one.

800 shouldn't be a problem for a 308 AR. A 16" barrel will reliably get out to 800 using 175 SMK's. If you switch to 190 grain SMK's a 16" barrel will get out to 1000+ yards. A 20" barrel for an M-110 clone should easily get you out to 1000 yards provided you have an optic capable of dialing in roughly 36 to 40 MOA of elevation from it's 100 yard zero. As long as you have a decent barrel it will keep up with most bolt rifles, except for the very high end custom built bolt guns.

Keep in mind that most semi auto sniper/DMR platforms are not designed for the same precision as dedicated bolt action sniper rifles. The semi auto's are designed more with a higher volume of accurate fire in mind. The first shot may not be a direct hit, but the subsequent rapid follow up shots will ruin someones day.

I shot a match with my LMT out to 800y using federal 168SMK. Score wasn't so good @800 but that was due to the shooter. It was my first time shooting competetion ever. I've heard the LMT and SR-25 are very very similar according to the guys at the hide.

I built a .308 platform, Noveske barrel 21", JD machine U/L in Armalite pattern, UBR stock (The Knights stock is about 300 if I remember correctly), SWS hand guard, SS 3x9. I haven't been able to shoot it past 200 yards yet but it is very accurate. I've had some feeding ejection problems, had it looked at by the gunsmith and he made it better. Still doesn't feed cheap ammo all the time. Haven't used anything better, I also need to try different magazines.
I built it over time, took a few years actually. If I had all the money at once I would just go with an LMT.

I don't like buying guns I don't shoot.. I don't do safe queens.. At least not as of yet
