So when the Ares SCR came out I thought what a neat idea. But then I handled one at a local gun shop and the extremely heavy trigger was a deal breaker for me.
But then Ares announced that they had reworked the trigger and it was now around 5-6 lbs so I order up a lower assembly.
And while it is a far cry from a good AR trigger, I can live with it. I plan on playing around with it and see if I can clean it up a bit and lighten it some more.
I had some parts laying around and finally had some time to put it all together.
Parts list first:
Ares SCR Monte Carlo lower
Ares bolt catch with Seekins enhanced lever
Gibbz Arms upper and forend
Norgon Ambi bolt catch
Seekins 16" barrel and muzzle brake
Syrac adjustable gas block
Seekins low rings
Leupold VX-6
Vtac sling
I am a big proponent of adjustable gas blocks. But for whatever reason, it is not very effective on this setup. My theory is since this rig does not use a standard buffer/recoil setup as a standard AR, the recoil impulse ia different and so the operating window is smaller/different.
I was still able to cut back some of the gas, but just not like a standard AR.
Once I got it sighted in, I was able to produce sub 1", five shot groups at 100 yards very easily with 50 gr Vmax ammo.
This is going to be my new coyote rifle and CA traveling/trunk gun.
