I've been contemplating for the last week about this too. Having 500 lumens is awesome but is it necessary? For home use probably not unless I have a mansion. So my choice for my purpose will be Streamlight. If I was to go camping, I'd have a surefire flashlight with 500 lumens.

HD lights, Surefire or Streamlight?

Surefire with the DG switch and F the rest. Bright, dependable, solid beam pattern and doesn't fall off the gun like I've seen many Streamlights do.

Exactly this - this is why I prefer the TLR1I bought both the X300 ultra and the Streamlight TLR1 HL. I returned the X300 and now have two TLR 1 HL's. It came down to reliable activation of the momentary on for me. You have to push directly forward on the small tail cap of the X300 whereas you can just press the large paddle down on the TLR. I found it uncomfortable to push forward on the tail cap with bare hands and that it was both hard to do reliably and disturbed my grip.TheNekoComment

If I didn't already have 3 Surefire X300s, I'd probably go with the Inforce (http://www.inforce-mil.com/products.php).Comment

Unless it was improperly installed with the wrong key, or with no key at all and just clamped on, it would be virtually impossible for that to happen. I've shot all day courses with hundreds of rounds and it didn't even get slightly loose.Comment

Cool as they are, I could not justify purchasing a single purpose light that I probably will never need.
Very glad I went with a (Surefire) handheld, which serves many everyday purposes. There are several techniques for using a handheld in a defensive situation. I'll bring my light to my indoor range and practice.Last edited by scotchblade; 02-22-2014, 7:29 PM.Comment

I have a TLR-1 HL and it's never even so much as wiggled after hundreds of rounds.
With the X300 Ultra, you get the Surefire name.
With the TLR-1 HL you get an extra $100 in your pocket and more 130 more lumens. The lumen unit is only to calculate total output of light, not necessary intensity. If you compare the old TLR-1 to the new HL, you can see that it is only slightly brighter but has a much larger spill.
Inforce lights are better designed than both Surfire and Streamlight, however I e-mailed them asking if they had plans to release a higher lumen model to compete with the TRL-1 HL and X300 Ultra. Unfortunately they are not, so I went with the Streamlight.Comment

I rock SF weapons lights on all my HD firearms. I'm sure the other options out there are viable as HD lights but I don't have any experience with them.CRPA Lifetime MemberComment

This is a step above "bad @zz", my friend.
OP The TLR is very good for the price but the Inforce is really easy to use and snap on. I have one on my XDm and am getting a x300 for my AR. Then Inforce is staying on the GD gun.The liberal see's the glass as half full and tries to take more.
The conservative see's glass as half empty and tries to keep it that way.
I'm with the people on the side just pouring water in the glass trying to get a drink!Comment
