I use them in my garage. My wife hates stepping on the airsoft pellets and my neighbor asked me once what the heck I was nailing together with the nail gun that needed that many staples.

Oh, and the mailman got a look at my target box. I built a wooden box trap on stilts to bring it up to proper height with a place to staple 8.5X11" paper targets. His shocked response was, "Holy God, what lives in that!" as it looked like there was a hole chewed in the cardboard front with scraps of airsoft-shredded paper (my trap medium) sticking out.

BTW, I have one of those airsoft Glock 34s. It doesn't carry any manufacturer's marks other than a complete set of Glock markings. I think it's a KSC as it has a working trigger safety (IIRC, the KWA airsoft pistols don't).

I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

I'm in San Mateo County and was thinking of gas or CO2. What exactly is a no-no in San Mateo County? It's been years since I've fired a CO2 bb gun so I'm not really up on the laws

Another cost saving factor to consider....fuel to get to a live fire range.
I made a target box out of an old stryrofoam cooler that I had lost the lid to.
Airsofts are a great training tool for tactics. You can use them to play what I call "adult hide and seek" aka force on force indoors.

My target is a usps flat rate box. I place a piece of fabric the size of the box inside and that keeps the bbs from going through or bouncing back.

I spent 3 1/2 years working at a hobby shop selling air soft guns. I also used to play games weekly. In that time I learned who made good guns and who to stay away from. KWA and KSC are by far the best in a gas powered semi auto. KJW and Tokyo Marui were the ones that failed most often. For full size electric rifles the Classic Army ones were the best out of the box. Marui made decent ones that were good if you wanted to upgrade them. ICS were by far the worst of the high end but still better than anything at big 5. This was just my experience with them. YMMV.

Thanks for all the positive replies...I was a little concerned that I would be ridiculed for "wanting to play with children's toys."

Be careful, some die hard commandos here will scorn airsoft.
I personally have been playing airsoft since the 90s.

I have a nearly identical airsoft glock 17 that I consider a training tool
They are great for practicing in the home.
The size and weight is identical to the real G17.
So close that I always have to do a double take to make sure I picked up the correct gun.

the selector makes it a glock 18, not a 17. i also have a green gas glock 18, i used it to shoot people when i did airsoft, it was fun opening up full auto on some poor guy and watching him jump around.

I used to practice IPSA speed drills with Airsoft guns, and built them as a hobby or whatever. They can be a great training tool. If you really want the real look and feel though, it can get very, very expensive. Like, I've built 1911s that were more expensive then their RS counterpart. They were, however, easily mistaken for real firearms, and were about as accurate as you can get. Heres a few random pictures from my photobucket:P

Tell me about it. I've got a $1300 bb gun in my closet that looks and feels just like an mp5. I got way too into air soft when I was getting everything at dealer cost.

I have one of the g26 (look alike) semi/full auto selector switch airsoft gun I was thinking about getting rid of, but after reading this thread I may just keep it. Fun little gun to shoot, especially full auto. Damn thing cost me 400 about 9 years ago, came with 2 cans of green gas, and 10k plastic bb's. Feels very close to my old glock.
