    Colt MK IV Series 80

My dad gave me a Colt Mark IV Series 80 that is unfired.
He's recently told me to bring it to the range and shoot it.

Here's my question - do I take it to the range and give her hell?
Or do I keep it unfired and try to sell it? Is it worth much?

Shoot it... the s.80 isn't as high demand as the s.70. Other then the stamping, the current Colt 1991 line is almost a direct match for your s.80. I wouldn't beat it to hell or anything... but shoot it and have fun.

It may not be a collector's item, but your dad gave it to you to enjoy, so enjoy it. My personal feeling, and I'm not a cork sniffing collector, wtf does it matter whether it has been fired or it has a few rounds through it.

If it is richly engraved with solid ivory grips, that may be a different story, but otherwise, who cares. YMMV.

As others have said the Series 70 are more sought after, but that doesn't mean it's not a good gun. If you were to sell it in unfired condition, you should easily be able to get $800 for it.

I'd keep it if I were you, unless you want to sell it to me in which case I would just keep it.

Very nice Colt! I love the older Series 70's and 80's.

Nice. Looking forward to range report.

That is awesome that your dad gave that to you, hope you like it. Kinda like deephouse, my dad gave me a GCNM as well, but it was sooooooo long ago (S70). Love that .45, and someday it will move along to my son. It's a keeper.

The funny part is, when i have a son, this will be his first handgun...and the Series 80 legacy will continue LOL.
