    Sig P226 conversion 40 to 9

I personally have conversion barrels for my full-size S&W M&P's and a Glock. A friend of mine at work wanted to see if he can convert his Sig P226 Equinox 40 to 9mm. For my S&W's and Glock they work great with both calibers I have had no issues.
I was curious if anyone has used a conversion barrel in a P226 and if functioned well. From what I have read you need a sig 9mm spring also? I do not need to change the spring on mine, but I believe Sigs are different.
    Any information would be appreciated.

    Than you,

    Jay

Not sure but IIRC, it’d be best to swap out the entire slide assembly for one thats 9mm.

      - change the recoil spring.
      - use 9mm magazine.
      - 9mm barrel; either factory or barsto (conversion) for tighter fit.

is this for range gun or home defense?

For this conversion from your 40 S&W firearm you will need a 9mm magazine and depending on ammo you may need a lighter recoil spring. We can supply both if needed. We recommend the 14LB recoil spring for the 9mm conversion barrel.

A conversion barrel may be $~250. With sales tax + shipping it may be closer to $300.
Two 9mm mags might be ~$50.

For me, I'd rather consider putting ~$300 toward an entire firearm which might be ~$1200 (estimated out-the-door) if a P226.

I don't know the availability of any complete .40 to 9mm slide kits.

Whether a conversion barrel will result in 100% function would also be my concern. I'd also consider just putting the money toward a case of .40 ammo.

        Just things to consider.

I considered doing the same with my P229. The cost of a 9mm slide and barrel was almost the cost of a Glock 19 so I put the 229 back in the safe and am now saving my $$ for the Beretta APX.

i bought a 9mm barsto for my p229. haven't shot it yet but the fit is tight and seems functioning properly (dry fire).

My mk25 9mm barrel fits and functions in my .40 slide. So stock barrel is fine.

you may need a recoil spring for 9mm as others have said. I have not shot with the barrel alone. easy enough to get on ebay

Thank you for all the information, I really appreciate it. I believe he would use the conversion mostly for range purposes. I personally only use my conversions at the range, I always store and keep the firearms in their original configuration when I get back home.

                Thank you again,

Theres a reason why Sig made caliber conversion kits for P226 and P229. I run an optics cut 9mm Slide on my .40 cal frame no problem. I didnt go the conversion barrel route because i wanted a red dot so I just got a factory made slide with red dot already included. Found it on Optics Planet. I love converting .40/.357 frames to 9mm pistols.

                    Like others said.
A 9mm barrel, recoil spring and mags.
Unless you want a new slide its not needed.

if for range purposes then maybe he doesn't need to replace the recoil and magazine. shoot it first to see if it's cycling properly. if not, then change one part at a time or just get 9mm recoil spring and 9mm magazines to eliminate any headache.

My personal experience with successful 40 to 9mm conversions:
                        1. M&P 40 with 9mm barrel and magazine
                        2. P320 40 with 9mm barrel and mag
                        3. HK VP40 with 9mm barrel and mag

They all worked perfectly and reliably. Barrel only swap with 40 mags were problematic. None of the 40 barrels worked on a 9mm slide.

Chk the OD between 40 and 9mm barrel where it locks up at front of the slide. Some modern pistol will have the barrel OD exactly the same and with same breach face to allow slide interchange between 40 and 9mm to save cost.

Even with different sized breach face, a 9mm barrel (with right OD) will still work in a 40 slide just suffer inherent accuracy since the barrel can move horizontally at the breach face slightly.
