Why are Browning HP 9mm guns so expensive?

I have a 1982 BHP that I got for my 21'st bday way back when and have put many a rounds through it w/o any probs. I was thinking of buying a new one and couldn't believe the price these things are going for right now! What gives? I mean it's a great gun and all, but they're over $1k!

Lots of handguns are over $1k, or at least close to it.

There aren't too many people making HP's anymore so it's easier for them to up the prices. I think the average price jumped at least 100 bucks when Charles Daly stopped making HP.

They are made abroad. If you haven't noticed, our Dollar is worth half as much as it was a year ago.

Its one of the few old world guns, blued, wood grips. Right now most things are over priced.

              They're worth it.

I look at the machining on my BHP and it is finer than probably any handgun I own with the exception of the SIG's and a few 1911's. Just racking the slide you can feel the workmanship.

I agree 100% with you Rorschach. I've put maybe 2500 rounds or so through my BHP (I don't know if that's alot, but it seems like it is). As it's my only 9mm I was thinking of getting another one to give this one a rest. I guess I should've bought one a couple years ago when they were going for $650. Oh well, thanks Mr. President!

I'm still baffled why that is... I read that Glock has a production cost of $75 for each handgun. Sure, there was R&D and stuff, but to go from $75 to $750 in most places is wacky.

Compared to July 2008 US Dollar is actually up against most world currencies, including euro.

They love their name and you have to pay for it everything browning makes is expensive.

I never liked glocks tried one at raahauges shooting sports fair when they were doing a durability test to see if they would hold up couldn't get used to their trigger, that's why I purchased a sig sauer p220 in 45acp and never looked back. Our dept picked glocks for our duty weapon so I opted out of qualifying.

It's still one of the guns on my must have list. I'm not much into plastic guns and like the solid feel and exposed hammer. I'm mainly into 1911's but HP is nice.
