    Glock 42 for concealed carry?

So I was in AZ and my nephew was carrying a Glock 42 with these in the chamber.

    380 Auto 65gr Xtreme

Much lighter than the 9mm SC + 10 rounds, I was carrying and much easier to conceal in the hot summer months.

Given advances in bullet and powder design, is .380 viable today, I still consider it under powered, but I am willing to rethink.

While .380 certainly doesn't have the best specs on paper, a person with 6+1 .380s in a Glock 42 is certainly NOT undergunned. I mean, look at how popular the similarly-equipped 5-shot .38 Special J-frame is as a CCW weapon.

I don't know anything about the LeHigh defense load, but Lucky Gunner's independent testing has shown there are a great deal of .380 hollowpoint loads that meet or exceed the FBI's recommended minimum of 12" penetration in ballistic gel. Just to name a few from their test: Remington 88gr HTP, Hornady 90gr XTP, Corbon 70gr PowerBall, Remington 102gr Golden Saber... All of them consistently meet or exceed the FBI penetration standard when tested.

Glock 42 as an ultra-concealable carry gun is 100% good to go in my book.

        Excellent CCW

Carried lot of different pistols over the years. The one I carry the most out my mandated 3 is the G42. Would I prefer my G26 if in dire straights? yes. Would I prefer my compac sig 1911 in a fight for my life? yes. But clothes and risk assessment / probability of issues often dictate the small, accurate, dependable G42. It took the place of my snub .38. I can shoot this G42 minute of eyeball at 14 ft. One ragged hole. Ammo: I carry either Lehigh 90 grain penetrator or Precision One 90 grain XTP. I also use Maguts magazine internals which give me another round for a total of 8 bangs. The Maguts plus one kits have proven to be dependable. Both about the highest rated in .380 ammo... oh and expensive. no sense going cheap in my opinion

I have G42 and G43. Both are awesome, and the G42 is smaller and lighter than G43 but not by enough - I carry the G43 as my flyweight / max concealment option. But the G42 is certainly worthy, and modern 380 ammo is pretty dang good.

Like others have said, the .380 is a fine round, but I'd question why such a light grain bullet? I'd probably want to carry something more than a 65gr.

I think the Hornady 90gr Critical Defense is my favorite load out of that Lucky Gunner test page. Not only did it consistently exceed 12" of penetration, but the average (median) expanded bullet size was 0.482". That's really darn good for a cartridge that most people used to dismiss as a mouse gun cartridge. I would feel very comfortable carrying this load if the concealment situation required me to use a small .380.

I carry the G42 in the summer with Ranger T ammo and a +2 Pierce extension on every mag. If the G43 was released before CA SSE ended, I would have the G43 instead.

                  My carry gun choices are:

                  Kahr CW380, Glock 42, Glock 26, Glock 19, Kimber K6s

and I've carried the Glock 42 probably over 95% of the time over the last 3 years (including right now), loaded with 7+1 of Hornady Critical Defense using Taran Tactical +1 baseplates that let me get all my fingers on the grip.

Very viable. I carry the Underwood 65 grain Xtreme defenders in my LCP in the summer, or when jogging, and feel totally comfortable with it.

Nothing wrong with the G42. Personally I prefer the G43 as the weight and size difference is not significant.

I have a 42 with Critical Defense 90grn JHP. For the size I like my Khar MK9 better due to the ability to shoot 147grn HST reliably. The 42 is a great pistol and is plenty capable with the type of ammo available.

I use Barnes 80 grain tac xpd in mine.
