For anyone that has applied and gotten their AZ CCW, are we allowed to upload our CA CCW training certificate or is it necessary to "Add on Arizona CCW Endorsement" when selecting/paying for LA/OC CCW Training? I have been reading yes and no and thought you guys with actual experience can chime in.

    Thank you in advance everyone!

I recently used my CA ccw info, no issues and process was smooth and swift. I did choose their portal to select a fingerprint vendor to roll, locally

      My itrader from 2012 - 2023

Their requirements for training are pretty lax. I am almost positive your standard CCW training cert will work as that training is much more intense than their 2-3 hour online courses they approve.

        From the AZDPS Site:
I am moving to Arizona. Is my concealed weapon permit from my former state of residence transferable?

While the out-of-state permit is not transferable, you may be able to use it as proof of firearms competence when applying for an Arizona permit. Please contact the CWPU for additional information.
On the online application it states to upload:
        • Documentation proving satisfactory of a training program or demonstrated competence with a firearm (REQUIRED).
The bar is set pretty low to meet that requirement lol
        ?

Spoke to AZ DPS today to get some updates....

As most of you know, AZ DPS launched an online option last October for both new and renewal CWP applications in order to further expedite their approval/issuance process and reduce manpower needs. The paper application process was retained and will continue to be an option, however for some reason, AZ DPS is still receiving a ton of paper applications that require significantly more time and manpower to process and it just slows down everything in the CWPU - So PLEASE USE the ONLINE APPLICATION!!

Current processing times are almost THREE MONTHS for PAPER applications and significantly less than a month for online applications and if your background is totally clear and there are no other issues, approvals are now taking just 24 hours! (See post above from Av8rJake). If you have not heard anything after two weeks of completing your online application (including prints) CALL AZ DPS - CWPU!!! And AZ DPS is no longer posting their 800-number on their website, however it's still valid so here are their numbers again:

AZ DPS - Concealed Weapon Permit Unit (CWPU)

              (800) 256-6280 - Phoenix, AZ
              (602) 256-6280 - Phoenix, AZ

On my last renewal in 2022, the DPS machine that added the small security hologram on the CWP cards was permanently broken and was so obsolete, it could not be replaced or repaired so my current CWP has NO security features on it. Updated security features were soon added and I saw this on the permit Palmaris received and it appears to be a significant improvement over the simple hologram square that was previously used. Well at my LAPD interview, the Detective noticed the lack of a hologram and I explained the issue, not a big deal, however I did ask today if I could request an updated permit. Yes, I could but it will cost me $10 and my CWP number WILL change! Since I have my AZ CWP on file in many places, I dont want to bother updating a CWP number change everywhere, so a hard pass for me on a new permit.

But DPS did mention to me that if I wanted an updated permit, that I should wait until next month because they will begin issuing a NEW updated CWP format with even more enhanced security features on the card!! So, if you are not in a hurry to obtain your AZ CWP and want the new enhanced CWP format, wait until next month to apply, however I would strongly suggest that you confirm that the new CWP format has begun to issue before you submit your application.

And for NEW non-resident online applicants only (renewals don't require prints) you can submit fingerprints electronically now and the info to complete this will be emailed to you once you submit your online application. I was not aware of this, not sure when this became available, but is really good news! No more rolling ink and mailing paper cards! If anyone here who is an AZ non-resident and gone thru the electronic fingerprint process would post their experience, we would all really appreciate it.

You have to register on https://fieldprintusa.com/individuals and enter the following code: FPAZDPSCCWNET

I went on to schedule an appointment on the site at the place nearest to my house. There was no appointment available until the next day so I called to ask if they could take same day and they just had me book the first available appointment for tomorrow and show up today with the appointment confirmation number. It took about 8 minutes and we were done.

                Super Easy.

Did they mention how to do this electronically within CA?
As far as I knew CA livescan places are only good for CA and federal without the capability to send to other states.

As soon as my permit arrives I'm going to get the AZ.

Great info so far on this, really appreciated.

                      Eduard,

Glad you got your Arizona CWP! Totally simple and easy process compared to LAPD/LASD! The combination of these two permits is really the ideal combo for CA residents to maximize their CCW coverage map. And if anybody here gets the new CWP card format, please post an image in this thread! Thanks!

Why would you wait to apply for the Arizona CWP??? Go online and apply today, you should have it in less than two weeks! In regard to prints for Arizona, I believe they contracted with an independent third-party private firm to do electronic prints, see the post from Av8rJake above:

They took my CA CCW 8 hours training without question. No need special (some school charging to add word AZ). I uploaded cert and shooting proficiency (or whatever right word is).
If you want to speed up process-do not hesitate to call them and ask. I got mine in 21 days from app fill up to pick up from mailbox.

I posted the exact info of how to do it above. Multiple of us did ours electronically a few weeks ago from CA at Fieldprint offices.
Got my card in the mail today.
