    CCW Insurance--Where do we stand now?

    Before everyone says anything, yes, I searched. I found a lot of talk around the time frame SB2 came into play, and shortly after it was stayed (to an extent).

    That said, I finally got my CA CCW again after moving back from a free state last year (I know). In Utah, I had USCCA, but that was only because they were offering a free Romeo Zero red dot to sign up, which I was going to purchase anyway. However, once we moved back, I canceled knowing it would be a while before my application was approved.

    Previously I used CCW Safe, however, I now see a lot of talk about Attorneys on Retainer. I have watched a lot of videos, but most were biased due to partnerships. Now that the dust has settled, what is the consensus here? CCW Safe and AOR, just CCW Safe, just AOR, something different? Any help is appreciated. With a kid now, it's even more important that I cover myself.

      I've switched from USCCA elite plan that was around $500/yr to the Attorneys on Retainer (AOR) $350/yr about six months ago based on the extended research and influencer recommendations. Saving $150 and I get real attorneys to represent and not some insurance company. God forbid I ever have to use any of them.

        I use CCW safe. When the SB2 fiasco was ongoing they sent an email assuring CA members that there would be no lapse on coverage. My friend who uses us cca said he got a similar email.

            This thread renewed my sense of urgency to get coverage...kind of like doing a will/trust, do it before you need it (did those about 10 years ago).

            After talking with two friends who have USCCA, reading here, reviewing websites, etc, I chose AOR today. I do need to look at getting general liability insurance coverage though as AOR cannot offer it (law firm, not an insurance co.).

            Paying annually gets you a 15% discount over monthly ($357/yr), but they have a one-time application fee.* If you ask them, they'll provide a promo code - it cut my $100 app cost to $50.

            * Why does AOR charge a $100.00 sign-up fee?

            The non-refundable sign-up fee is to have your plan start immediately - no waiting period, no matter if you decide to pay monthly or annually. This fee also covers the administrative fee because you are not just a member but a client of the firm when joining the AOR program.

                Second that. I know Dave Ramsey argues against it, but he lives in Tennessee, not in a blue s h ! t h 0 l e where many of us live. I've heard enough anecdotes of tool-head people who work for even bigger tool-headed DAs prosecuting apparently-lawful self-defense cases and the cost of defending could bankrupt a person. Insurance is all about risk mitigation.

                        Is there any conflict of interest (or against any terms & conditions for either company) to have BOTH CCW Safe and AOR coverage?

                        I realize it would be more money, and you probably can't use both at the same time if an incident occurs, but you would at least have an immediate contingency should it be needed.

                          I would check with each organization and ask if their coverage remains valid if you have coverage from another org. If the answer is yes, then it's your decision whether or not to have both.
