    Carry handgun on a motorcycle?

    Hi all,

I ride my motorcycle on long trips. There is a tank bag sitting on my gas tank. Can I put an unloaded handgun in there, with the ammo in the side pocket? The tank bag has no lock.

    I'm in California.

    Thank you all.

As long as the hundgun is locked, you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks. So I could put on a trigger lock, then just let it sit inside the soft tank bag or does it need to be in a locked container?

I think the gun is required to be fully contained in a locked container. Probably something like the nanovault would do, and stick it in the tank bag.

Before I had my ccw permit i would just lock the gun in a soft case and put that in the tank bag. Or get a tank bag with a double zipper and put a lock through it.

I've done it in CA with takedown long guns in a large backpack or saddlebags or handguns in a locked case or disassembled in a backback.

                  ^^^This.

Others have made good suggestions too, I like the allen soft case with a very small lock thru the zipper myself.

Ditto, I just put a lock though the double zipper before the CCW........never had a issue and wasn't a stranger to LE. It's funny how a sport bike can make a middle age dad go from responsible to stoopid so fast..........seriously jsut lock the double zipper and you shouldn't have a issue.......
