Took the Saber Tactics CCW class this past weekend up at Los Altos. Super informative, painless and even fun. Highly recommended.
Bring bug spray though. Couple dudes got stung by bees.
Also preload maps on your phone if you're going to rely on it to navigate you out of the hills. I had zero signal until I got spit out at the bottom of the hills at Saratoga.

How long is the Psych exam? It says 4-6 hours on the invite, it can't seriously be that long?

Does Contra Costa County require a pysch exam? How does that comply with the SCOTUS decision in Bruin? Did the U.S. historically require psych exams for citizens to own a firearm? I'm way behind the curve on this.

It takes as long as it takes you to answer the bagillion dumbass questions they ask.... You can be done very quick if you know how these tests are structured. The key is to read the questions carefully so you don't fat-finger something stupid. I know one guy in our group was done in like an hour, i was done in under 2 hours, iirc.

It's annoying, but it is what what it is at this point. Good luck!

Think hard about this.... sure we get 3 guns.... but unless you train with them all, you really only need one gun on the permit. While I have 3 guns on the permit, there is only one gun that I basically carry every day, period. The other two are more or less an option if, for some reason, the primary is not available for carry. The truly efficient/hardcore folks just put 3 of the same make/model gun on the permit and call it a day because, one is none. 😎

Yep, my attitude was that after spending lots of cash & many months in the application process, it would be stupid to get so close and then fail out due to impatience or a dumb*** competitive impulse to finish first, so despite my chronic impatience & competitive nature, I checked my ego & made myself read every question twice, then I went back and reviewed again before submitting.

Right now first available interviews appear to be running a year (Nov 2025).

I am trying to figure out when I can renew. On the site it reads "..renew no later than 90 days before expiration..." I am wondering when the process can start.

This is so ludicrous, there are no words for it. I hope these mofos get the book thrown at them in court. Completely bonkers.

The TL;DR for everyone in this thread:

The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved Sheriff Bob Jonsen’s proposal to hike the fees for new civilian licenses from $662 to $976. The standard renewal required every two years would go up from $187 to $447. Fees would not change for judges or law enforcement personnel.

Has anyone who recently did the psych test and interview hear back from them? Did my test 12-16 and interview with the psychiatrist 12-17 and it’s been crickets since.

CRPA is considering litigation against Santa Clara County for its extraordinarily high CCW permit fees of nearly $1,000, which brings the total expense to applicants to around $2,000 when the other expenses (psych exam, livescan, training course) are factored in.

If we do pursue this lawsuit, we will need two types of plaintiffs (mostly No. 1, but some of No. 2 as well):

                            1. Residents of Santa Clara County who would apply for a CCW permit with the Sheriff's Department, but have not done so because they cannot afford the massive expense of doing so.

                            2. Residents of Santa Clara County who have a CCW permit due to be renewed in 2025, who will now have to pay $477 plus the cost of a training course to renew their permit. If you can demonstrate financial difficulty due to this expense, that would be ideal.

For those without a permit yet, please make sure you have a spotless personal record and would be a shoo-in to get the permit, but for the expense. We don't want the case getting hung up on arguments of "he would have been denied anyway" and such.

How about a CRPA, GOA, FPC & SAF class action on the psych and other unconstitutional prohibitions in PC 26202 (a)?
