Where is everyone going for the CCW Course?

I went to Spartan Defense by Fidel Taylor. One price whether you qualify with one firearm or 3. Great class. Will go with him again on my renewal.

I absolutely love it! Its a tack driver. It has never given me any issues either. Got it for $450 too.

Got the info to him on 11/2/15

I was asked if I was ever arrested as well. I was also asked if I have a Marijuana card. They said if you have one you CANNOT get your CCW. I asked why (I don't) and they said unlike alcohol, there is no way for them to determine how much is in your system. With alcohol you can do a breathalyzer etc..

He also asked me how my RAI 1911 is. I though that was interesting because that was not one of the three firearms I put down for my CCW.

Still waiting to hear from the sheriff .

Investigator call for more info, employer letter 10/04/2016
Sent employer letter about a week later.
Followed up to see if letter was received, it was 10/25/2016
Call from investigator 10/31/2016

As of 10/31/2016 my file was off to the sheriff for final determination.
I was told, the sheriff has been out of the office a lot and they are running behind.
During the conversations with the background investigator, I was asked, was I ever arrested? I said, no, since I hadn't been. He mentioned a date and charge, I told him, I had received a summons, went to court, dismissed since it wasn't me. He considered that an arrest. I was never in the police station, but the way they write it up, it doesn't spell that out.
He said, any other arrests? I said, no, since again, I didn't believe there was. He mentions another date and incident. I had been questioned with a group of other people and all were released. No court or charges ever. This too, showed up as an arrest without charges.
He said, anything else? I mentioned an old pot bust from 1978, I was 18, got conditional discharge, no bail or anything, no fines. Of course he didn't have that one. The other 2 incidents were 1981 and 1987.
I asked if he felt I had any chance of being approved?
He said, we'll chalk it up to young and stupid, it was so long ago, he didn't think it would be an issue. Just be sure to list it on renewals.
The application asked, any arrests? Even without convictions?
To me arrests are cuffs, rights read, pics and prints etc....
Now I know list every interaction. My problem isn't anything I did or didn't do, it's the not listing the items.
Anyone have any experience with not listing something? As an honest mistake?
I thought it was promising, he said, list on future renewals, as if there may be something to renew.
Hopefully this will be over soon enough.

Just picked up my 2-year permit this morning. All told, took one week less than a year.

Just got the approval email! Couldn't be more relieved/excited since I thought the sheriff was so reluctant to approve me in the interview.

I agree 100%, I didn't disclose the petty theft incident just because I was underage when it happened and I don't remember seeing a section on the application for things like that.. Just the circumstances of what had happened and it wasn't a felony/misdemeanor or anything like that. And honestly I had forgotten all about it until the background investigator brought it up. I told him I had forgot all about it but would be more than happy to give all of the details. I'm sure what helped is that I didn't try to hide it in the interview with the sheriff, I was upfront about everything.

Also in the interview, at the end he says do you want to say anything else before we finish, because right now I don't think you are a good candidate and you would be getting a letter from me.

I told him he could check some of my references (all 3 were law enforcement) if he had any doubts.

Let me know if you get a 2 year or 1 year permit. I got a 1 year probably because of some traffic tickets

Congratulations. Seems like it's better to upfront and completely honest with anything that may or may not be on your record. When I interviewed last month I was upfront about EVERYTHING no matter big or small. I even emailed an addendum to my interview about something I forgot to add. Rather say it than them find out and ask me.
