Anybody know if when it comes to modifying the permit, do you have to fill the modification out first , get approved, and then go do the shooting portion, or should you just go do the shooting portion and get the certificate and then go to fill out the modification of permit online?

Do the shooting/qualification. Then upload it when you fill out the form. Not sure how long it takes to process though.

Sheriff Withrow is running a first-class operation at the SJCSO. I applied for my sixth CCW renewal on a Tuesday. I followed the steps in Permitium to the letter, and uploaded all of the required docs. I was approved the next day. I next scheduled a date/time to pick up my renewed license. I took my training at Silvercreek Academy in Tracy. I picked up my new license. It's a state-of-the-art hard-plastic ID (not the laminated paper ID from previous years). It has a clear statement at the top that I am licensed to carry a firearm in the state of California. The ID is similar to a CA DL. I'm good now for two more years.

My 90-day window opens next month; here's to hoping I have a similar experience. Question to you, OP: When I renew, does the two-year window extend from my November date, or do I cut myself short by whatever time the renewal gets approved?

Thanks, brother. Here's to hoping that my renewal is completed before my expiration date. As I am hearing from folks in other counties that the backlog is such that a few have lost their ability to carry while they wait for the process to complete. Please take note of the following text:

Thank you for your help. I hope my renewal is processed before my current license expires. I've been hearing from people in other areas that the backlog is causing some individuals to lose their carrying privileges while waiting for the renewal process to be completed.

I just started my renewal for San Joaquin County. Currently taking an online class and will do my qualify shoot on 12/20. I suspect it will be a couple weeks after I submit the certificate but will post once I have everything in hand.

Who is offering the online class you are taking?

Sorry, been having trouble getting back in to reply. I am taking this through CALLED2ARMS in Modesto. I had been talking with them over the last few months, when they first announced classes were accepted by Stan County and Escalon, about San Joaquin County. While they haven't updated their website, and SJCSO hasn't updated the "approved vendors" list since early this year, they have been given the green light for us. The renewal is $160 for the 8 hour course, and it is a true 8 hours since each section is timed and you can't advance until the timer hits 0:00. It's a go at your own pace type class, and you can stop and resume as needed. After completion you can print out the cert and contact them to schedule your live fire qualification. They seem to do that 2 Fridays a month, from 5 PM to 7 PM. It looks to be first and third Fridays, since this month they have 12/6 and 12/20 on the list. I will likely be taking mine on 12/20 as I plan to finish the online class in the next day or so.
