Yes, they FINALLY started renewing in accordance with your expiration date so you no longer lose any time. They were doing this at least as far back as December, which is when I did my last renewal.

But they still owe me for about a month of lost time over the years and I want my damn time...or money...back! Somebody should do a class action lawsuit on this. And I would happily contribute my portion to a good 2A group or similar. The tyrants need to feel some pain for their tyrant-ing.

I have been told that it should only show this for a matter of days because it will move to a different status. I have also been told it will take 90 days or more to do the background check. I have nothing at all in my background to worry about as I have held a CCW for many years in Orange County. Is what I am experiencing normal or should my status have changed by now?
    It's normal.

Looks like you just hit the 70th day mark. Considering you are clear expect a status change within a week closer to the 78-80 day mark and your references will be called.

    FYI......

If you already have an appointment booked months out, now’s your chance to reschedule and get in way sooner.

Just got word from our friends at Practical is Tactical — San Diego Sheriff's Department has open CCW appointment slots available starting on June 20.

Log in, check availability, and grab an earlier date while they last!

received my permit in the mail yesterday, 5/14. new issue date and expiration coincides with previous expiration date, 5/31/2025. so this renewal came faster than the SO’s expected time of 8 weeks according to their website.

    Another data point.

My renewed permit, issued after the expiration date, is dated when issued (4/15/25), not the date it expired (3/28/25).

So they were gracious enough not to start the renewal period on the previous expiration date (3/28/25), which would have the same effect as dating an early renewal when issued.

I think they've gotten their shhh...err...crap together on this. Finally. When I went through my renewal in December, they issued my renewal in accordance with my current expiration date...so no time was lost...unlike the three other times I've renewed where I always lost time.

Keep us posted on the outcome!

Don't you worry though. They made sure to double the price to account for the extra mandated four hours. Damn blood suckers. Yay. 😳

And I don't begrudge the classes for raising the prices. The don't have much choice. It's the damn state mandating this crap...and mandating it every two freaking years. I love paying money over and over and not learning a single new thing. It's a bunch of nonsense.

    Renewed permit arrived today.

Was approved on the 15th + 3 days to mail to my house = 7 weeks since I submitted the application.

    Yup. Now 8 hours.

Yeah, this is only my second renewal. The first went so well--issued within a week--I figured long waiting times were a thing of the past, streamlined by the introduction of Permitium. How naive of me.

Yea, call the clerks and see if they can do anything for you. It's probably just the normal processing time as they're backed up a bit. They were doing a 45 day renewal back in December when I did mine, but it's up to 60 now...which is a bummer.

The lesson for the future is that you probably want to check the website 4-5 months out from your renewal to see where their lead-time is currently at...and then check it monthly as your window approaches. But make sure you submit your renewal as soon as they allow it.

This is my 4th renewal and they've always run to full extent of whatever lead-time they have posted. They're never early. And it's frustrating because renewals should be a slam dunk. There's no reason why they shouldn't be able to process a renewal in 30 days. But the last I heard is that they pretty much have only one day a week dedicated to the CCW process because they have other stuff to do. I don't know if that's still the case but it probably is. The 45 days back in Dec was a good sign. That was cut in half from what used to be 90 days. But now they're going back up at 60 days. The whole process is maddening...and dumb.
