    PSA

    Paper or Plastic

The letter from the SD Sheriff should note at the top in bold, in the "Important" section, to carry the FD4501 as the CA approved permit

If you look closely, the paper permit notates FD4501 and the plastic permit does not, anywhere show FD4501

Per the SD Sheriff office when I asked the question via email, paper or plastic, here is their response

"The paper permit is the state approved CCW license and must be with you if you are carrying concealed. The plastic permit is optional. Thank you, Sheriff's Licensing"

I know many here already know this, with so many new permit holders coming online, it's good to get the word out, in my circle of friends, zero out of 5 picked up on this

    Carry on and be safe

In my case, I did 2 different quals 3w apart, ended up with 2 different certs, uploaded both the permitium

Just be sure to not send the email to the Sheriff's office that your cert(s) are uploaded until they are all uploaded and you will be GTG

FYI, for me, upload to permit in hand, 17 days

    Good luck
Sweet! I may pick up another carry gun then lol.

I believe as long as they haven't done the background check, you're able. After that, it is a firearm addition/modification.

I had all my stuff in way early this last go round and they waited until two weeks before my expiration to approve me. The permit came about a week later but was dated for the week prior when they approved it. This means I essentially paid my hard earned money for two weeks worth of a CCW permit that I will never get to use.

And this may seem like a small thing but given the expense and that the permits are only good for two stinking years, I want the full amount of time that I pay for! I don't understand why they can't simply renew your permit in accordance with your current expiration date. I'm sure it's because of some dumb legal reason but it ain't right!
Going back 30 years I'd say, don't sweat the small stuff at this juncture.
