Default How To Get A CCW In Los Angeles County

Hi,
I always hear of everyone in other states getting their CCWs. Unfortunately I hear that it's nearly impossible to do so here in California. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get a CCW in Los Angeles county?

Not impossible in CA. Lot's of counties are 2A friendly. LA county on the other hand is run by communist 2A traitors who will only hand out CCW permits to friends and donors. So unless you are a friend or donor of a politician you most likely won't get one.

Honestly I'd move to OC if you want a CCW.

Sad to say, but as mentioned above your best bet it to move to Orange County, Riverside County, or San Bernardino County.

Furthermore, if you are really this unaware of the current state of the CA CCW system you have a MOUNTAIN of research ahead of you- prepare to be frustrated and disappointed.

Unfortunately it's highly unlikely, unless you're a well-connected Democrat or political donor. I've been told by people in the know that that's the case.

I also saw a town hall with the LA County Sheriff, in which he demeaned a regular citizen who asked him about getting a CCW for personal protection. It was an absolute disgusting display of elitism.

Don't bother in LA County unless you have a lot of money and time to throw away to get a generic rejection letter. You're better off taking the money for the fees and classes that you would have to take and donating it to the LA Sheriff or another connected politician, at least that will get you somewhere.

Unfortunately, most LA City police chiefs also take the same stance and either defer to the Sheriff or deny any application.

We are surrounded by free counties though, San Bernardino and Riverside counties both issue to the east, Orange to the south, Ventura and Kern to the north. It's just LA County who is the hold out bastion of the democratic elite where you have no right to the CCW that they reserve to themselves and their friends, or their bodyguards. <end/rant>

First revoke your citizenship then stay here illegally. You'll get a CCW, free medical and free college for your kids.

There's a map even:

Depending on where he lives in LA County, Ventura or Kern are even easier. Both are essentially shall issue, requiring only "Self Defense" as a good cause statement. San Berdoo is good as well, but the wait times are longer than either of the others.

The people you’re hearing that from are just spreading FUD. It’s actually quite easy to get a CCW permit in California. Just not in L.A. or the Bay Area.

Wrong. You don't get a CCW, you just get exempted from the laws requiring compliance. You can even be a gang member and be exempted from criminal databases according to Kamala's basic plan.

Your best option is to move. Our businesses are in LA County so I needed to be as close as possible to the locations but be in a CCW friendly county. My backyard block wall is the OC/LA County line. It was a straight forward process in Orange County and I obtained the permit in 64 days. There are other benefits as well. The taxes are cheaper here, better schools, and we have our own PD so we get excellent service compared to the LASD.

You have ZERO chance of getting a CCW in L.A. County. Like others have said. Move to a CCW friendly county like Orange County. You'll get your permit as long as you meet the qualifications.

I was told that the OC is no longer 2A friendly, that it's following LA county's footsteps, and that your current sheriff is refusing to issue CCWs now. Is there any truth to this?

Who told you that?! Bunch of FUD.

We’re one of the leading counties in the state (with over 15,000 licensees)

This for sure. OC is the model for the rest of the state. Stop listening to FUD! We are not one of the leading counties. We ARE the leading county. No county in the state has more acitive CCW permits than OC!

[QUOTE=Gun1;23879090]https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.ocr...s-permits/amp/

That was from October 9, 2008.

Things have changed in the last 12 years.
OC Sheriff Barnes has done a great job. And his predecessor, Sheriff Hutchens, was outstanding as well.

They both know the value of having solid citizens being able to take care of themselves and their families.

Ah, that's right. I hadn't seen the dates on those. I think the rumors were also fueled by the fact that not a single Republican representative won reelection in the OC these past elections.

Become a cop or reserve cop. Otherwise, forget about it.

My friend in the OC listed EVERY handgun he has and he said he is going to list his AR pistol as soon as they allow it. He said they are the friendliest people.

My ATF was a guy in line at Turner's telling people the absolute incorrect information. At the end he said something to the effect that he knew what he was talking about because he works on computers. I about smacked that idiot.

One time in late 90s, Sheriff Baca had the weapons training unit train a few people, including some people you may know when you hear their names, and made them special reserve deputies. He then gave them CCW license/permit. Maybe you can be like that.

Ah yes, the "celebrity" reserve unit which is supposed to be famous people who can do outreach for the department and get them good publicity. Unfortunately, it ended up being a lot of rich businessmen who donated to his campaign instead of celebrities. It blew up when one of the businessmen decided to brandish his weapon while in his skivvies in front of his house and the local cops were called.

There is another thread about West Covina, as well as Glendora. Both are in limbo right now but there are active members here pushing the agenda at city council meetings.

I sure hope they do at some point. Might show the sheriff law-abiding and responsible people can carry too.

So far they haven't gotten anywhere with both cities. Seems like the council really doesn't want to take on the issue.

They were not issuing, they ended up punting.

West Covina PD is directing CCW applicants to the Los Angeles County Sheriff.

In theory they should be, but in actuality they are not.

Is it possible to get a CCW in Orange County if I own a business there but live in LA county?

No, you must be a resident from the county you reside. I don’t think OCSD issues 90 day employment permits
