Do you know how many rabbits are back there? Why not let nature work on your side? I'm going to suggest once again that maybe hanging some homemade or store-bought owl boxes might be part of your plan to try to reduce an ever-growing rabbit population. You can look up how to build them on YouTube but it's very simple.

It might take a while for an owl family to move in but once they do as long as there's a food source in the area they will stay there, raising young hungry owls who work 24/7 , so you don't have to.

You should check your municipal code, shooting an air gun in city limits varies by city. Here is an example:

53.15 Air Guns, Sling Shots, Pointed Missiles, Etc. — Discharge, Propelling Prohibited
That it shall be unlawful for any person to discharge any air gun, or sling shot, or bean shooter, or throw, hurl, heave or propel any sharp pointed missile, or dart, or arrow upon any public street or sidewalk or public gathering place within the corporate limits of The City of San Diego.”
It’s only illegal in public places.

Just put some "Rabbit Free Zone" signs in the yard. Works for guns right?

^Agreed. The Ruger Blawkhawk is a fantastic air rifle. If you want the .22 equivalent, check out the XISCO XS25S (its the same rifle, but without the Ruger name laser-etched into the hardware). Mike over at Flying Dragon Air Rifles is the only one I know that carries it:

I know this thread was started in August of last year, and I'm not going to speak to the legality of shooting air guns on your property. I'll just say that what I use for rabbits is a Gamo Wildcat Whisper in .22.

Uhh...I've never heard of a scope damaging a receiver. If the thing is properly mounted than you should be just fine.

Its typically the other way around, wherein a spring or nitro piston rifle can damage a scope from the forward motion of the recoil impulse. That's why its important to use an airgun-rated optic which can take the abuse.

Just go to big 5 and get one of the .22 air rifles. Maybe do some research on which ones are the quietest but has enough fpe (not fps) to take down small animals.

^Agreed. But those don't qualify as cheapo.

Benjamin nitro piston from big 5 in .22. Make sure to get the strong piston. Check pyramydair.com for more deals. Buy a new scope and Charlie da tuna trigger. Its quiet and strong. Takes about a tin or two to get real quiet.
