CCW @ Las Vegas
TL;DR
Cosmo: No problem Aria: No problem Caesers: No problem Venetian: No problem (see below, luggage scanning) Mandalay: No problem (see below, metal detectors) Fashion Mall: No problem -- Just wanted to share my experience with my Vegas trip. I carried at all times, including Cosmo, Aria, Caesars, Venetian, Mandalay, & the Fashion Mall. Venetian: As we got to the Venetian with the cab, I noticed the bell desk door was open ajar and I could see clearly that there were bell desk guys handing luggage to 2 security guys dressed in black wearing blue nitrile gloves putting the luggage on some type of platform (maybe conveyor belt). Mandalay: My wife wanted to go see the MJ show at Mandalay. I expected some extra security at Mandalay (for obvious reasons), and saw nothing different. As we approached the entrance of the theater, noticed they had metal detectors. I back-tracked to the security desk. I told the guard that I am attending the show and noticed that there are metal detectors and would like to check-in my firearm. He asked if I was an active LEO, which I declined. He said they couldn't check-in my firearm. I said no problem and thanked him for his time and walked away. We had time to kill until the show started so we just walked around a bit. Security didn't appear to care about me carrying, nor asked if I had a carry permit. After a bit more walking around, we took a cab to Cosmo and put the gun in the room safe, and headed back to Mandalay for the show. We got back to the theater and as I was emptying my pockets to walk through the metal detectors, I noticed my backup mag (steel) was still in my change pocket. I didn't take it out and I walked through the metal detector. Not a single peep or alert from the detectors. Not sure why the detectors didn't go off with the steel mag. I echo what you are saying, I have been in several casinos since that horrible day and I've never been stopped. And perhaps coincidentally I don't think I have been in any of the casinos you went into, it appears I am not as ritzy as you.
TI, Bellagio, Paris, MGM, Trop, NYNY, South Point, and Silverton to the best I can recall. Plus a few on Fremont St. No issues anywhere.

Due to NV knife laws, pre-2015, what security told you would have been illegal (felony). Prior to 2015, it was illegal to conceal carry any type of knife. This included folding knives that were folded closed. It is legal to open carry knives. So, in order to be legal, some part of the knife (pocket clip) had to be exposed at all time. In 2015, NV changed their knife laws, so now it's legal to conceal carry knives (fixed blade or folder). However, it is still illegal to conceal carry a machette/sword. |

Seriously? I carry a knife EVERYWHERE. I figured if I could in CA I could carry it anywhere except on an airliner. I've lost a couple that way because I don't even think about it and forgot to leave it at home.
Venetian is posted, btw. There's a little bitty sign that's facing inward, so you would normally only see it when LEAVING. |

I didn't see any metal detectors at MB last time. Are they at all the casino entrances, or just the theater?

Vegas has unique problems due its popularity. Part of the allure is the party-hearty, happy go lucky vibe. They won't just install metal detectors or give the appearance of a police state without thinking long and hard about it.
Concealed is concealed, the casinos won't be wanding or scanning people anytime soon.

In order to get into any of the shows (five different stages) they wanded everyone and checked purses as well. Perhaps on non-events, there is no wanding but....just sayin'... |

No, they do not have such a clause. The law in NV says you cannot be over the legal limit to drive if you are carrying. You will learn this if you ever get a NV CCW.

Anybody know for sure about the Vegas monorail?
Last time I was there I saw a "no firearms" sign (think it was a pistol with the circle/line through it) so I just didn't go in and walked the mile or so from my hotel to where I was going. |

Las Vegas Hotels & CCW guns
I used the search button & did not find any info. Procrastination has caught up with me. Headed to Vegas Tuesday. What do you guys do in Las Vegas when you are going to a show & cannot carry?
Last time in Reno put gun in room safe & then could not open. Called room service and guy shows up with security they wanted to know what was in the safe & then had to follow security to check it in. I am thinking this is what they do every time or am I paranoid? So do you check it with security then retrieve when walking the strip or use a cable locked container & leave it in the room. I do have a Utah permit so I am good otherwise. |

Concealed is concealed. We were at the Orleans last weekend, both my wife and I carried all the time. We also did some range time and left more guns in the safe as well as an AR in the car.

If you’re going to SEMA, don’t try it... they have metal detectors at every entrance now. I would carry everywhere except when you’re at the show... test the “lock box” out in your room before you actually put the firearm in there.

Just went to Vegas this weekend, definitely test the safe in room before using it if that’s where your putting it. We went to 2 concerts and both had metal detectors so I didn’t carry there. We stay at a friends Hilton timeshare every time so there is no room cleaning unless you ask for it and no one comes in when you leave the do not disturb on the door. I wouldn’t leave it in my car, we saw homeless everywhere including parking structures.

I always test the room safe first before I leave anything in it.

Good thing someone asked this - I'll be going to Vegas with the family in December. Planning on a couple of shows and activities.
I guess I have to leave my firearm in a safe, etc. for David Copperfield and Mystere? Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk

I open the room safe, feed my cable through the gap between the hinges and then lock it in my own cable lock box which is now attached to their safe. Or just put in in the vault in my truck.

A "public building" is a building that is owned/operated by a Gov agency. The Las Vegas Monorail is owned/operated by a not-for-profit corporation and is not owned/operated by a Gov agency. Private property owner/operator can legally ask a person to leave their property for any reason. Failure to do so when asked, can result in a trespassing arrest. [NRS 207.200] Therefore... There are no NV laws/regulations that prohibits possession/carry of firearms in the Las Vegas Monorail facilities or on the monorail. However, if discovered doing so, a person can be asked to leave the property/monorail and failure to do so, can result in an arrest for trespassing.

Anyone here actually carried while having a drink around the strip? With all the crazies, i'd feel it'd be risky. |

Yes, I don’t walk the strip though. I usually Uber between shows/casinos/hotel unless I am visiting a next door or across the street casino.

Unfortunately he signed it Jun 14. I am sure the anti gunners there are emboldened, who knows what’s next. They removed the part that would have killed existing preemption laws, but added a red flag law. I am sure the Brady Bunch will be going after state preemption laws again next time around.
If the preemption laws are killed, then it will be open season on guns and carry rights in Vegas. https://www.ktvn.com/story/40551662/...on-gun-safety1 Last edited by SkyHawk; 11-05-2019 at 9:41 PM.. |

Heading back from Las Vegas tomorrow, thanks everyone for your advice. It went well. Packed everywhere but the shows. Went with no room service since short trip, kept in cable lock box when @ shows.
Just had a room check by hotel. This a new policy since Mandalay Bay, for people who opt out of room service Again thanks, this is one of the reasons I really appreciate Cal Guns. |

We went around to the other side looking for a place to park the wife so I could take my pistol to the car. Front side of the South Hall was packed. Metal detectors but no 2nd screen. They were just passing everyone thru wether they set off the detectors or not. There was a huge restless crowd waiting to get in so I got in line and walked right thru. Had a good day and saw lots of cars, booth babes, cars and equipment.

The Las Vegas Convention Center is owned/operated by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, which is a Nevada Government Agency. Metal detectors and posted "no guns/weapons" signs have legal weight at the Las Vegas Convention Center. [NRS 202.3673] Even if you have a valid carry permit, it is illegal to conceal carry in the Las Vegas Convention Center. ^Exemption for LEOs, Judges, and valid carry permit holders with written permission from the Gov agency that owns/operates the building/facility.

It was founded by the Nevada Legislature in 1955. The LVCVA is a public-private partnership that owns and operates the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC), Did not know that.... I definitely did not see any no gun signs.

I left everything in my hotel room because they did the same thing last year but the South Hall at SEMA had a "Media Only" entrance. If you had a media badge they waved you through without checking at all, but at other places inside they were wanding.
Dude in front of me had his pocket knife thrown in the trash can by security after they saw the clip on his pocket. Bummer for him. |
