Default Microtech Knife - not sharp

I own a Microtech Dirac Delta, picture below (mine isn't black, regular stainless blade). The tip is super sharp, but the edges aren't sharp at all. This was purchased straight from the factory.

I'd like to send it to a professional to get it razor sharp. I don't want to risk putting a bad edge on the knife with my inexperience.

Is this the best way to go, and if so, who is the best person to send a knife to for sharpening?

Thanks

some pretty respected sharpeners hang out over at https://www.kitchenknifeforums.com/ and i'm pretty sure some of them do all sorts of things other than kitchen knives

Send it back to Microtech. But....they may not be able to ship it back to you if you live in California. Call and check.

Agreed. I would send it back to Microtech if at all possible. I think they have a lifetime warranty(?).

Wow that sucks. And to be clear this is a brand new knife? Can you take a close up picture of the edge? Sounds like maybe it missed its factory final edge or something.

While this may be a opps on the factory for your future knife sharpening needs I can’t say enough good things about my Edge Pro system. Awesome way to get a razor sharp edge and easy to do.

As long as it's legal to do so, I'm pretty sure you would have to bring it down to my shop for me to be able to help.

Buy sharpening tools and learn how to do it.

I don't understand why folks send knives off to be sharpened. One minute with a good stone every couple of days of use versus sending it away for a week at a time every week makes no sense.

Unless people don't actually ever use their knives for anything?

Imo if you want to own and use high end knives you should learn to sharpen them yourself. But ymmv.

What are you cutting that you need to sharpen a pocket knife every couple of days lol

I'd rather send my Benchmades into corporate to be sharpened properly than risk messing up sharpening them myself. I'll sharpen my own axes and Machettes, but pocket knives with crazy hard steel, meh, not for me.

I do own a Spyderco knife sharpening system.

I use my knife every day. Sometimes to open mail and boxes. Sometimes to cut rope. Sometimes to pry nails. Sometimes to shape wood. Sometimes to separate knee joints to remove legs. Sometimes as a screwdriver. And oftentimes during lunch and dinner.

I suppose some people spend hundreds on a knife they'll never use, but folks who actually use their tools learn the incredibly easy process to maintain them as well. 🤷*♂️

Not sharp?

Could it be a knockoff?

Ahhh gotcha, using the wrong tool for the job, makes sense why you would have to sharpen so often. Sounds like you need a multitool.

Yep. Knives are definitely not meant for cutting rope, carving wood, slicing off a piece of ribeye or opening boxes.
Knives aren't for looking at. They are for using.

It's so curious seeing people being so dead set against learning a simple and useful new skill.

I would send it back to MT as their customer service is excellent and they turn things around quickly. I had sent 2 knives back to them to be repaired (LUDT and UTX70). They could not repair the UTX70 due to my knife being older and parts are no longer available. So they sent it back to me and gave me the option to buy a new one their cost so I bought a satin TE UTX80 with all the bells and whistles.

How did you buy a knife from microtech. I thought they only sold to dealers.

Which still does not explain why you're so firm in remaining unable to maintain your own tool, by learning the simple and useful skill of sharpening your own knife. It makes me curious if folks who refuse to sharpen their own knives also send off their guns to have them cleaned?
