Default Phoenix range meet spring 2020

I would like to host a range meet next spring on my private range.
I am open to a weekend between January and April 2020.

Location is near the town of Wittmann, AZ which is the far northwest suburbs of Phoenix.

This is not an Amway sales event. I will have my machine guns and suppressors for my entertainment and they will be available for rent but there is no requirement to pay anything to attend and shoot your own guns.

I would like to start out small so this will be limited to 10 vehicles and 30 people.

I practice the 4 rules of firearms safety.

My range is on primitive land. No bathrooms/medical facilities/utilities. There is cell reception but it is weak.

Access requires a high clearance 2wd vehicle. 4wd preferred but 2wd can be done by good drivers. At least 8" of clearance and minimal overhangs in front/rear. A 2wd Tacoma could do it. A stock awd Subaru will not without body damage.

Camping is allowed. Fires at my discretion. RVs will not make it. Overlanders should. Toy haulers/trailers will be able to get within 100 yards and can camp on a friends property that is flat.

There are miles of utv/bike trails nearby on trust and blm land. If you get bored with shooting you can wheel all you want.

I'll be changing out the layout of the range next fall.
100ft wide back stop for typical public range style shooting.
Run and gun course with plates out to about 100 yards. The run and gun course will be wide enough to drive tracked vehicles through so it should be easy to run 4x4s through the course.
Long range out to 1200 yards.

There are some nice hotels in my town if you do not want to camp. If we did this during Spring Training month you could catch a few games while in town.

Feel free to post questions/suggestions in this thread or via PM.

ATTENDEE LIST
SINCE THIS IS SO FAR IN ADVANCE NO WORRIES ABOUT CANCELLING. JUST LET US KNOW ASAP IF YOU CANNOT ATTEND SO SOMEONE ELSE CAN GO.

norcalfocus
200apples

pending attendees will be based on first post = first reservation so 9cal-oc is first in line of the maybe's.

Would it be OK if I bring my machine guns and other NFA stuff too?

Yes. Just no explosives that can launch projectiles like encased grenades. Simple stuff like tanerite is fine. Military vehicles need to be approved as some could get stuck. I have acces to a bulldozer but there will be a hefty recovery charge.

I’m in. I’ll need a ride though, you know my Edge won’t make it.

I’ll donate all the paint we want/need.

You can borrow my Jeep. I will probably need 2 vehicles anyway.

Sounds badass, I'm only in San Diego and would love to shoot out to 1200 yards. My Tacoma will easily make it.

A stock AWD Subaru Crosstrek with 8.7in ground clearance will go anywhere a RWD Tacoma will

In fact, any of Subaru's crossover/ suv's will.

=P

So are Calgunners already in Phoenix area welcome, or just the CA calgunners?

😎

I would be honored to attend. Sincerely.

4 X 2 with mild lift and good tires, shootin' irons and camp gear featuring some '40s and '50s vintage Coleman.

Camping and shooting in the desert is all I want to do these days. And I don't get to do it much. So, yeah, please count me in!

Down 89 it is about 95 miles and 2 hours form whiskey row. 17 is slower and farther.

All Calgunners welcome.

I know Subaru's are capable but the terrain will not be nice to anything with long overhangs. I have no doubt I can get just about any vehicle to my property but getting out is not as easy.

We have been pounding down this road over the last few months so it is much better now but more monsoons will mess it up more by spring.

You just need to make it up this hill to get out of the property. I can tow anything up the hill but body damage is likely.

I had no issue getting a 2wd suburban as far as the top of the hill. I was pulling a skid steer on a trailer so I did not want to damage the trailer. That was before the hill got washed out.

I'll probably make a video of the drive to the range a month before the event so people can decide if their vehicle can make it. I plan on cutting away a lot of brush to prevent paint scratches.
If I have the driveway done quickly I might smooth out the roads with any leftover rental time. I just prefer them washed out to keep non land owners away. While that hill and "street" is public road there is no legal access to the BLM land to the north so riders trespass to access it. The hill north of my property is even worse and has been known to pop out springs or pull away shocks.

I have a 4 inch lift running 35's and 4X4 so it should be fine.

Did you decide on a date yet?

I was living in Wickenburg earlier this year for a few months and I am still planning to move down there permanently. I am still interested in in coming out there for this shoot.

Thank you for putting it on...

Wow, just saw this thread. Love to do it but I'd have to go stand in front of NorCalFocus's house with my thumb out. Wonder if Enterprise will rent any 4wd's?

I'm about a 1/2 hr from Whittman. What are the cross roads? If my truck can get down the road I'll be there.

Thanks

It's not to hard to find a Jeep for rent in most places near there.

I will be sending directions and location vua PM to those that rsvp 1 week before the event. It is not difficult to get there but there is no direct route. Easy to get lost so I prefer a meeting spot at the end of the pavement then every one follows me in.

A high clearance 2wd will make it there now. My son and I hand repaired the washed out part of the hill. I will have a recovery strap in case anyone needs help. If your vehicle had low overhangs like air damn take them off.

Forgot about this thread but remembered it at your mention of the 10 acre range in the Sedona steel thread. Still interested. Set on the Feb 22 weekend? My RWD Ram 1500 shouldn't have an issue getting back there. It's seen some hairy dirt trails out here in Pinal County.

Yes. I just had the road fixed to make it easier to get low clearance vehicles there. I want a few meets this year.
