I seen a lot of guys open carry. Not sure how that works.

Security guard at the elevators recognized my shotgun case (I was in town for a shotgun event) and security came to my room to pick it up. I basically had to request it and turn it in each time I left the hotel.

My CCW was fine (I doubt they even knew).

Open carry is legal in NV.

As long as the non-prohibited person is not open carrying in a prohibited area (in a Gov owned/operated building, on school/college property, on child care facility property, in a restricted area of an airport), it is legal to open carry.

In the past, LVMPD and NLVPD had an anti-open carry policy in areas where there was a high concentration of tourists (e.g. on the Strip, in casinos, etc) because they viewed it as a safety concern (weapon retention in a crowded area). LVMPD eventually dropped that policy due to legal pressure (threat of lawsuit) by the ACLU of NV.

In post #13, in this thread, "Things to keep in mind about NV"... #2, #3, #4, and #5 also apply to open carry.

At the Venetian as I type this. No issues, no apparent metal detectors,
the guard at the base of the Venetian elevator tower just sits while you
swipe your room key and continue when you get an immediate green light.

The hotel/resort is filled to capacity and the entire employee base are wearing masks. Most people wandering the casino and restaurants are not
wearing masks and I’ll guess maybe 8% are. People are happy to be out
and about. I think Vegas is back baby……..lol…

LOC on the Las Vegas strip is not a great idea. Although perfectly legal you run the risk of scaring the tourists who may make a 911 call about "a man with a gun". I spoke with an LVMPD LEO about three months ago about it when I was there with the wife. He said they get those calls on a regular basis. The result is that they will detain you to verify you are not a prohibited person. They will release you with the advice that it is better to get a CCW so you don't have to go through this again. Just because LOC is legal does not mean that it is wise. Use good sense and carry concealed!

Where did I hear that before?

Oh, wait. That was me saying it about ULOC back when it was still legal in this state and the geniuses held a parade or 10.

Why in the world would anyone bother to call the front desk and ask permission? CONCEALED IS CONCEALED! Unless it is a government building don't ever ask. If you know how to properly conceal than nobody should ever no you are carrying!

Was in Vegas last weekend, non-issue with CCW anywhere on the strip.

The stories about every casino having 'weapon detectors' and being able to pick up exact enough signatures to conclusively know who to approach seems pretty farfetched. You'd have to walk through several of them to isolate you from a group walking through at the same time.

Maybe the system works like a lie detector, it doesn't actually work but you think it does which stops you from lying. Ergo, you don't carry when you think the casino can tell.

Or maybe they do know, but they don't care to make a deal about it if you don't.

I just saw a video the other day of a guy walking into some building (no idea what building but guessing it wasn't a casino) And the security team watching him on the camera immediately pointed out his gun.

EDIT: Found the video. No idea where this is being used.

I suspected that security and law enforcement have such capability. Thanks for the video.

The gun would have to be substantially hotter or colder than ambient surroundings to show up like that. Also a thick leather holster would probably insulate it from the camera. And a polymer grip will not soak hot or cold like steel will. And a flannel shirt is probably going to have some affect as well. And if you are wearing a coat, they can probably forget seeing anything.

So, they may be able to see something like that image if you had a steel gun in a kydex holster and you just came inside after being outside where it was substantially cooler or hotter, and you were there long enough for the gun to get hot or cold, and you are wearing a T-shirt.

It isn't xray vision - it is a thermal camera.

Great! I usually stay at Caesar's Palace, Venetian or Planet Hollywood. It's good to know they're fine with it as long as it's concealed and nobody knows. I probably won't be going to Vegas anytime this year though.

If you try to go to any of their clubs, then you will be discovered (metal detectors).

*Because of the 2017 Las Vegas mass shooting incident, several Las Vegas hotel/casinos have implemented new room check/search policies that are part of the TOS for renting a room.
Since you agree to the TOS by renting the room, you give hotel/casino personnel permission to randomly search your room, when you are not in it, for any weapons and other contraband items.
^I know this has been done starting in 2018 and has not stopped. From personal knowledge; Caesars Entertainment properties (Caesars Palace, Bally's, Harrah's, Cromwell, Flamingo, Rio, Linq, Paris, Planet Hollywood), MGM Resorts properties (MGM Grand, Bellagio, Aria, Vdara, Excalibur, Luxor, Mandalay Bay, Mirage, New York New York), and Wynn Resorts properties (Wynn, Encore) are all doing this.
I wonder how that’s all changed. Some years ago I stayed at the Rio for several months in vegas. I brought some guns, enough that it took 2 bellhop carts to get them to my room. At that point they DGAF about my guns, I think after the mass shooting, that might have changed.

I can install those in your business (including analytics) for surprisingly little money. When a gun is detected, it will email and/or text photo of whoever has the gun to whomever I want and groups of people based on work shift. It can give your location and color photo or video of you in 4KHD good enough for glossy print And that’s just a few thousand bucks.

The casinos spend millions of dollars on their surveillance systems. Not only do they know you are armed before you enter the building, they probably know your name. They can pick you out of the crowd and fallow you on monitors throughout the casino until you leave.

Not trying to cause paranoia but just don’t be deluded into thinking they don’t know you are armed.

Tell them you have a CCW. The “security” guy calls a cop who looks at the CCW and allows you through. Did this on New Years Eve at Fremont Street Experience.

Do not use bell desk at the Venetian/Palazzo if you plan to carry or have your firearm in the room with you. I had personal experience with this.

Although, they were super cool and courteous about it the process of checking in your firearm with security and checking it out when you leave is totally time consuming. They have to literally walk you to your car and see you off.

I have been to the hotel many times and I always carry. This time, we used the bell desk and they discovered 2 load mags in my backpack after running it through their X-ray machine. I got a call from security in my room and she asked me if I had firearm on me and I said “yes”. She said that it’s “no big deal” but I had to check it in with security while I’m on property. So I did but the whole process took almost an hour as I had to wait for someone to escort into the “employee only”
security office. And go through the same process to retrieving the firearm. Leaving in your car is not an option as they don’t want any firearm secured or otherwise on their property and not in their secured armory.

I go or Vegas 4-5 times a year and had carried every time, this is the first time I ran into this.

I’ve used bell desk at other hotels and no issues. I think all Vegas hotel has a “no firearm” policy. But if you don’t tell, no one would know. If they do find out, the worse they can do is ask you to leave. Unless you are some how breaking the law in their state, like carrying without a permit. I have an AZ permit.

This never ceases to amaze me. Do they call ahead and ask gas station at Whiskey Pete's if it's okay to fill up with a concealed weapon?

Yep!!!

And we wonder why so many IA in California are reluctant to issue? I have a difficult time blaming them. With questions like this it's no wonder as it implies the mentality of so many people who want to carry a deadly weapon!!!

This is most likely. Don’t think the correct cameras and analytics can’t detect and track the movements of concealed firearms, because they can.

They probably did the math an don’t want 10-20% of their customers walking out the door because they, or someone they are with has a firearm, never to return.

Be legal, don’t be a duchy, and they know.

#1. NV laws requires the valid permit holder to be in possession of their valid CCW permit and valid State issued DL/ID, while carrying their firearms.

#2. It is not legal to carry or possess a firearm on any school property, college property, and child care facility property.

This includes the parking lots and driveways on those properties.

#3. Posted no weapons signs at Gov owned/operated buildings have legal weight.

So, it is not legal to carry within any Gov owned or operated buildings, unless you are an exempt person (LEO, etc.).

Several Las Vegas convention centers are owned by Clark County (NV), so it is not legal to carry within those convention centers.

Allegiant Stadium (LV Raiders stadium) is partially owned/operated by Clark County and UNLV, so it is not legal to carry on that property (includes the parking lot).

#4. It is not legal to be under the influence of a controlled substance or have a BAC of 0.08 or greater while in possession of a firearm.

#5. NV trespassing laws allows a private property operator to request a person to leave their property for any reason, failure to comply can result in an arrest for trespassing, breach of peace, and/or public nuisance.

This allows business (stores, malls, casinos, hotels, clubs, etc.) the legal right to ask a person they discover carrying a firearm to leave their property and failing to comply can result in a negative interaction with NV LEOs.
It is legal to carry its LTC in a business who’s primary business is the sales of alcohol (a bar) so long as your BAC is below .08 and you are not consuming alcohol?

I ask this because, even thought I don’t drink, most of my friends do and we end up in bars for dinner quite often.

My son in law is that guy. I kid you not, he'll snitch on himself. A couple months ago he and my daughter were doing a little tenant improvement for their biz in NY state, he decided to call the building department on himself to have them okay a non-bearing partition wall. They shut their business down for a week and sent the fire department and building inspector out there, fined them $1,400 and okay'd the work without changing a thing. He's a freaking moron of the first water I swear, and my daughter married him.

I think you can even have a brew when you are carrying there, so long as you stay under the limit. I mean seriously, as your post two above this alluded to, what they know and what they'll do are wildly different if you act like an adult. They aren't in the business of chasing customers away, that's Gavin's job.

I've carried everywhere in LV and nobody has ever said a thing to me. I've been in fancy hotels/casinos, concerts, restaurants... Even some of the ones that people say check and x-ray etc. Never a word. Of course I didn't call ahead and ask the manager if I could bring a loaded gun on the property, as if anyone is ever going to say yest to that right? They might know, but after watching me blow a couple hundred bucks and eat at the buffet like everyone else they probably realize they have better things to do.

Same goes for San Manuel, Soboba, and Pala casinos in SoCal. I just ignore the signs and walk in like I own the place.

Yes, it is legal to do so under NV laws.
