Default Any comments about D7

This year will be my first year hunting D7. Any comments or advice? 9000 tags! Is it possible to avoid the crowds?

Just like anywhere in CA the more scouting you do and the more you are willing to get off the beaten path the more likely you are to fill a tag.

D7 is a huge zone with low deer density and difficult terrain. The terrain is both thick with conifers and quite steep in many areas which make it difficult to locate and see deer. Best advice is to go there and scout. There are deer and some nice bucks but it's difficult hunting.

I can tell you it's better than D11, D13 or d15 by far.

Big area with lots of deer, but lots more hunters. Try backpacking in somewhere to get away from the crowds and road hunters.

That’s the plan, see if I can find a burn 4-5 miles away from the access points. I’ll have my son, the sherpa with me LOL.

Finding a burned area won't be hard after the Creek fire. Pretty much everything north on Shaver, Huntington and Edison Lakes burned in 2020. Here is a link to the historic burn maps:
