"AR-10" .308 build.
I Just finished assembling a .308 based AR rifle using a 18" .308 Aero Precision complete upper my Son gave me. (Great kid!)
The upper has a Epsilon brake, so that should cut down recoil pretty well. I milled a 80% lower to fit the upper, and used a unbranded drop in trigger I had in my box of misc. AR parts. I used a FAB Defense "RAP" stock I got cheap at a gun show and a Hera Arms grip. The stock and grip were OD green, so I painted the upper and lower OD to match using Brownells Alumahyde. I also painted a few Magpul mags to match. The colors between the different parts are not an exact match, but close enough for me. The scope on the rifle isn't what I'm going to actually use for it. I just put it on to see how it looked. I have a Swampfox Arrowhead 1x10 LPVO on the way which I'm going to use. Since this forum isn't real active I though I would share. I'm hoping to get out and do some shooting after the scope arrives...

Probably from someone who stole my picture.

Gotta love that Brownell's Alumahyde, pretty durable stuff. I built a rifle with raw upper and lower receivers and then put about 6 coats of the stuff on them, baking each coat in the oven.

That's why I used the quote marks, as most folks don't know the difference.

It's actually pretty good for a rattle can finish. I couldn't bake it so each day for about a week I hung it out in the sun. It's probably still got some curing to do, but for the most part it's hard.

Will do. I hope it's a decent scope. I couldn't pass up the very discounted price for military, active and retired LEO'S...
Plus pretty good features. But we will see.

Oh, God no.
Lol. I'm toying with the idea to put a bipod on the hand guard.this is not going to be shot offhand much. But it's already heavy. I'm looking at the Magpul model. Anyone have any experience with them?

Do you have a short neck?
The scope seems pretty far back on the gun for proper eye relief. Make sure you setup your eye relief at max power as that's where it's narrowest. You get more relief in both directions as you lower the magnification from maximum.

Looks good OP.
308ARs look really cool but they are heavy muthers. Might as well get a bolt gun since most 308ARs are bench guns. I have put together two 308ARs using Aero M5 lowers. They were both 18" with bbls on the heavyish side. I sold them and replaced them with 16" 308AR carbines: a Windham 308 and an M&P10. I like my 308ARs to be short 16", "light" and handy "fighting" guns with a practical range of point blank to 300yds, similar to the range of an AR15 with 1-4x optic. My 308ARs arent configured to be long range "precision", bench, or hunting rifles, although they are pretty accurate. I still prefer a bolt gun for longer range shooting or hunting.

^^^ looks great!
unfortunately don't have pictures of the scope on my m&p10 but the eyepiece landed about there, just slightly in the way of the charging handle but manageable I picked up a trijicon 3-12x40 acsent on warne one piece mount at Frontier Justice in Lee's Summit for about $600 and very pleased.. extremely clear glass for the price point.. here's my post about decalifornicating the m&p10 if anyone needs it http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...8&postcount=14

Yup, short neck. I tried it from different shooting positions at max X. At least pre shooting it feels good, but only actually shooting it will tell the tale.

What mount is that? Weird how the rear ring is extra wide.
Maybe I should bring my PSA up and we can try them side by side. I have a 1-6x Primary Arms that I have to mount. Last edited by sigstroker; 10-19-2021 at 11:48 PM.. |

Their newer jig will do 10s and 15s - I left AR off so I didn't upset anyone.
https://www.80percentarms.com/produc...-80-lower-jig/ Price JUMP since I bought mine a couple years ago. |
