Default Anyone regret buying a Heritage Rough Rider?

Bass Pro has these for $79.99 after rebate for the single-cylinder and $99.99 after rebate for the dual-cylinder model.
I understand they’re cheaply made but as long as they’re reliable they look like fun little plinkers. Anybody hate theirs?

i bought a new 4.5” 22lr/wmr hrr 7-8 years ago online for $150. it is perfectly ok as a cheap, occasional, 22lr plinker, but it has been supplanted by a better ruger wrangler for only a few bucks more.

thinking to wring more with 22wmr out of a longer barrel last year i bought a new 6.5 hrr also for $150 online. compared to my older hrr, the newer made hrr felt noticeably poorer-made, and i happily sold it off.

if you pay just $70 ($100 promo price minus $30 factory rebate) new, and if you can personally handle the specific hrr that you intend to buy, and if you don’t plan on your young children to cherish it, and if you are not intending to rely on it solo during a deep-woods, week-long, backpacking trip, then a hrr may, not shall, be ok.

otherwise find a ruger wrangler or used ruger single six.

Another option is the Colt Peacemaker with both cylinders. If you can find one, opt for the 6" barrel.

I have one from 1972. It's a nice plinker and is accurate. I do prefer my Single Six with the 6-1/2" barrel and adjustable sights, however.

No regrets. Had to look at the time stamp on imgur to see how long ago I bought it , 7 years. Definitely get the dual cylinder option though. 22WMR is a fun comparison to 22LR. Not an heirloom or target pistol but fun example of an old single action revolver.

No regrets, but I sold mine a while back. Not a fan of single action revolvers.

After watching a video of the manufacturing process(owned by Taurus) I don't regret not owning one.

I did buy a 17 back when that was the only option.

Couldn't see the bullet holes so passed it along.

I have two. I bought one because it was a good deal, then I bought the second because it was a great deal. Now I have a 4.75" 22 LR revolver with a spare cylinder, and a 6.5" 22 WMR revolver with a spare cylinder, for the price of a Wrangler.
If both of them crumble to dust, I really won't care much.

What didnt you like?
The crowning before rifling?

You can't expect to get an all steel new revolver for $100 in this day and age.
Colt and Ruger don't seem to have any problem with aluminum frames on their 22 revolvers.

I like that very classic and cool representation, neat handgun.

I've shot them before, and as an informal plinker they are tough to beat. I keep hoping Ruger offers a .22 WMR Wrangler, but that new birds head "shopkeeper" Wrangler might get me to buy a .22 SAA.

I bought one for introducing new shooters to the world of firearms.
After safety instruction we shoot a 22lr revolver and semi-auto. Then 22lr rifle, bolt and semi-auto. Move up in caliber from there as comfort level increases.

I bought the single cylinder for 100 bucks then got the mag cylinder for Christmas. Buy the duel cylinder.

It's a fun little plinker.

Never regretted not buying one. I'd rather spend money on Ruger Single Six or Bearcat. In my case Bearcat won.

If that is all you can afford, go for it. Me, I would save my pennies and eventually buy a Ruger Single Six. My Single Six with a 6.5" is a tac driver.

I just was hoping for a hundred bucks to get a fun convertible plinker.

What didn’t you like about it?
I’ve read complaints about the finish coming off and it felt like cheap metal.
Thanks

Felt cheap. Almost like a toy. I regretted it as soon as I took it out of the box.

there was nothing wrong with it, but I could tell it was not quality.

I have one. It's not very accurate with cheap 22lr ammo. But the main reason I keep mine is for animal husbandry. It is safe, fast and consistent for putting down a small animal like a goat.

I had one, and for your stated purposes it would be money well spent.

Mine came to me, when my mother passed away in 2006, it had both cylinders and was accurate as I could hold. It accounted for many pesky jack rabbits in and around Mom's garden.

Now it belongs to my grandson as his first pistol. And will be his son's in a few more years.

Considering I could order a Heritage from Sportsman's for $119, after DROS, taxes and ordering the $35 .22 WMR cylinder, you've barely broken $200 - a Ruger Single Six convertible is around $700 before tax and DROS.

I don't know how badly you could regret a $100 gun. Being in CA the fees drive the price up, but if you sold it for a loss it would cost about the same as a trip to a range to rent the thing one time.

I just bought/traded for a Rough Rider and a Wrangler. I'm selling my CA guns before I move out of state. But ironically, while I can buy almost any handgun there, the low melting point handguns are "banned".

Buying both costs less than half the price of a single six. While the single six is a great gun, that's a good bit of money for plinker or hunter.

If I ever decided to buy a single action revolver I’d take a hard look at them, it would be between it and the inexpensive Ruger.

I do not enjoy shooting SA revolvers, the slow reloading process always has me wishing I was shooting something else. After one or two reloads I’m done and ready to move on to something else.

I picked up two 6" NIB at a street faire when my son transferred from Idaho last year. Each one has different grip material, a laminate and a black ploy. Great for the Cash & Carry Kentucky price. PAX

Loading the SA resolver is part of the pleasure, along with pulling back the hammer before every shot, for those who like shooting revolvers. It's similar to the joy of working a bolt action or a lever action. If those processes aren't fun, there's semiauto. Different strokes for different folks. Sometimes I'm in the mood to just rapid fire. Sometimes I'm in the mood to slow down.

Yeah your right, the only time I’ve ever shot one was shooting a buddies a few times. Maybe if I spent more time with one I’d feel different.

I have one and like it.

I hate giving money to Bass Pro/Cabela’s, but at that price with the WMR I’d snatch it.

When the closest option was a Single Six for $6-700, I think a Rough Rider was a bigger consideration. But now that Ruger offers their less expensive Wrangler with their better reputation for repairs being done if needed, I would strongly consider ponying up the extra few bucks myself for the Ruger Wrangler and avoid the potential pain in the neck of a problem child like this video shows. YMMV
Perhaps there's something to the theory of their quality slipping recently as this guy also has an older RR that was fine, and his new one sucks.

I prefer it to the Ruger Wrangler. I've got a ~6" and the 18". Magnums are fun, but regular 22lr is fun and cheap so I rarely shoot the mags.

I have one; and for the $130 or whatever it was after taxes its a fun gun to shoot (though in .22lr I prefer my P22Q with a suppressor). It does everything I want it to do: goes bang when the trigger is pulled, kids and adults alike enjoy shooting it, I don't worry about it getting scratched/banged up, and whenever (if) it breaks I think I'll have gotten more than my money's worth.
