Really?
What part of "shall not be infringed" do people not get?

Is CA the only state that does this?

As far as I'm aware of yes. Too bad it doesn't do much other than take your money.

recently, I got off my lazy butt and got my FSC.

The printout I got has only a 1-year window until it expires. That normal?
Or am I suppose to get something from the CA DOJ/OAG?

(also, unlike the start of this thread, I was able to pay cash and give a bit more to my local gun shop as they don't have to eat CC transaction fees)

No, you get nothing from CADOJ.

I no longer have one, but they do not expire after one year - DOJ says

An FSC will be valid for five (5) years from the date of issuance.

Doesn't sound right. Your FSC is supposed to be good for 5 years.

Take the copy of the 5 year date to your local gun shop and see if they make it right.

If not, tell them you will find a new local gun shop.

The FSC is generated in PDF form when your certificate is processed on the DOJ's FCS (Firearms Certification System) website. The date should have been automatically logged at the time the FFL logged in to file your cert. If the expiration date is wrong, the FFL can go into the same system and report an issue. That will probably be faster than you trying to get a hold of anyone at DOJ to deal with this.

I'm curious what your card looks like. Can you post a pic? Redact your name and the actual FSC number if you care..but the rest of the content with the dates, etc.. I'd like to see. I've never seen a card expire in 1 year if it was a brand new FSC vs. re-print of an old one.

I guess this is one BIG STEP I do not have to deal with, having a govt ID! I never feared the weapon only the explosions.

Went to Sportsman's Warehouse Brentwood today and got a new FSC to replace one that expired during COVID. $25.00 paid at the front checkout register followed by test at the right side end of the rear gun counter area. Easy-Peasy. No firearm purchase necessary.

Now I'm set for another 5 years and ready for unplanned purchases

If needed, I suggest looking over the State's study guide:

https://oag.ca.gov/sites/all/files/a...rms/hscsg.pdf?

Also, if needed you can practice test at the following link with 9 or so practice tests:

Combo question, PPT and need to get FSC timing?
Has been quite a while since I checked in here. Have a potential purchase and last purchase was a LONG time ago. M44 rifle. At that time it was just fill out the paperwork and wait for pickup. It seems as time has went on things have changed and lots has been added steps wise for a purchase. Tried searching the forums but couldn’t find a short concise listing of todays steps needed for a PPT and have not picked up a FSC yet.
Hand gun / Pistol is the potential purchase, L.A. county SGV Area. Not sure if there is a better choice shop wise to do the transfer through.
Also can the PPT be started and then handle doing the FSC before picking up the pistol?
Hopefully this is the correct thread as I checked around before posting here.
I’ll also say thanks ahead of time for the input.
Not a shock to see more hoops and all to be jumped through.

You need your FSC card in order to complete the DROS for your PPT. Most places will issue you the FSC test before you start your DROS paperwork. However, if you do it at that time make sure your seller is ok waiting around for you to take the test.

I thus began administering the FSC at work today. Why does DOJ just accept credit cards? At the register, our shop charges $10.The testee is then brought into a room and given the new test along with the firearm affidavit, which requires proof that the testee can remove the lock, load, and unload the pistol. You must use a credit or debit card to pay the additional $15 after the work is finished. No checks or cash are accepted.

They don't accept cash/check on Firearm DROS fees either. We should be happy that they don't charge us an extra 4%. Your post was a little confusing to me.
