Good! Let the Veto Session proceed....

In his veto message, Edwards wrote that the anti-vaccine mandate bills “contribute to the false narrative that the COVID-19 vaccines are anything other than safe and incredibly effective.”

Already, lawmakers seemed poised to call themselves into the first-ever veto override session under the modern constitution because of previously announced vetoes of bills banning transgender youth on school sports teams and removing the permit requirements to carry a concealed handgun.

The governor's list of 28 total jettisoned bills — along with 11 legislative pet projects struck from the state construction budget with his line-item veto — gives lawmakers more reasons they might want to return for a veto session that could begin July 20.

I wonder if the DemRats in La, will follow the example of Demrats in Tx, and abandon the legislative ship. And go hide in DC to stop a veto vote being taken.

Won't work, Republicans have solid majorities in the legislature and LA only requires 50% +1 present for a quorum. Texas requires two thirds of the legislature present to constitute a quorum.

Well, yea it technically would work if ALL of them left. One of the chambers had several Ds vote for the bill. So a few Dem votes are necessary to hold the 2/3rds.

Angry Louisiana

Quote:
Republicans in Louisiana's Senate failed to get enough votes to overturn Gov. John Bel Edwards veto on a bill that would ditch permitting and training requirements to carry a concealed firearm in the state.

The Associated Press reports that the 23-15 vote was short of the 26 needed votes to pass.

Sen. Pat Connick, who voted for the concealed carry bill during the regular session, was among three senators who said that they had changed their minds. Connick said he spoke with law enforcement in his area that were in opposition to overturning the veto.

LA needs to make sure those Senators pay the price. Better yet don’t elect Dems or squishy GOP to the governorship.

I’ve seen this numerous times where the Governor vetoed a bill and all of a sudden votes are flipped. I think these cowards didn’t originally want to vote that way and think the override vote will be forgotten and the Governor will get most of the blame. The next election isn’t until 2023 so they probably figure they’re safe this year and next.
So maybe the 2023 session these folks will really feel the heat.
