I gotta say one of the biggest mistakes I made in hindsight I shouldn't have but too late now is I did my training after clearing the livescan part. I figured it won't take a year to get the proceed to training email.... But the stupidity is I emailed the CCW unit stating training is complete and attached is my cert....
They responded with hey hold onto this until you receive our permission to continue to training we made a note in your file but provide when we ask for it yada yada yada.

I received the call for pick-up this morning from a Restricted number. My "Firearms training and certificate received" email came on 11/7/22. Pick-up date is scheduled for 1/26/23, which will be exactly 19 months from the date that I mailed in my application.

WOW! 19 months but at least the process is finally coming to an end for you. Congrats.

A buddy of mine that received his CCW in August had to redo his training. When he received his “proceed to training email,” the training certificate was two weeks past 1 year and they would not accept it.

My buddy just received his call today for a pick-up date too. They gave him Jan 19th, but he is away on business, so he asked for another date. The Deputy said they would have to call him back in a week or two with a new date. WTF, they just couldn't give him a date right then and there. He has to wait another week or two for another phone call to get a pick-up date. Dumpster fire.

Congrats!!! I'm still waiting for that elusive phone call and my firearms training & cert received e-mail came on 11/1/22. I wonder how they are prioritizing their calls. I did make 2 status follow up calls last month, not sure if they dinged me for those follow up calls lol

That is awesome! See here's another example... 23 days for pickup sounds absurd to me. It's a 5 min process and instead of dedicating 1 person to knock out a bunch of these once a week they have 1 person total doing everything

Quick question re: LAPD and ‘good character’. I have been clean for the past 16 years from an addiction to prescription opioids. I don’t plan to hide this in my interview. How does the PD view this? A bit concerned that despite the time elapsed and my age at the time it could present an issue. Curious for any input...

You have an interesting timeline. I submitted my app Dec 2021, 4 months before you did. Got my call to interview first week of Oct 2022, a month after you did. Cleared all three livescans three days later. Got my process to training email last week. Just goes to show there’s no predictability with these timelines.

On a side but related note(not directed at you D_K), I can’t help but think the constant emails to the ccw unit asking for updates may have a detrimental effect on the applicant. It says clearly, in all caps, DO NOT ASK US FOR AN UPDATE in the Proceed to Training email.

My timeline
12/21 App submitted
10/22 Call for interview/Livescan cleared
12/22 Proceed to Training Email/Comfirmation email of training certs received
Call for pick up tbd

ppl here in this sub still do not learn the lesson, LASD is not other SDs, contrary to 10 mil population, they don’t give you damn about., do not call/email or ask about your status, they will throw you all the way to the end, they will pull whoever they want to pull. normal process takes 12-20 months.

Hard to say since there isn't much precedent. Only way to really know would be to apply. Alternatively wait for results of those who might be in a similar situation.

Just to add, on my approval letter from LAPD it says "I have determined...and has not within the past five years had any criminal convictions, arrests...incidents involving the use of narcotics..."

In that case you may be good to go.

The officer who scheduled me stated interview would mirror the application. There are definitely questions about substance use and mental health treatment on there. Think you are right in that I need to find someone with similar circumstances, or perhaps I will be the test case.

The CCW application limits history to 5 years often times, but the interview questions are more broad and open ended. For example they did not ask if in the past 5 years I ever got into a physical fight with someone, but just have you done so? I remember this generality because I replied "when I was a child, I play wrestled with my brother..." so this tells me the questions they ask in person do not impose a 5 year limit or else I would not have said as a "child" and over thought the question / gave too much info.

Good to know. I will be truthful but seems like end of the day it comes down the officer who interviews discretion (according to some accounts I read).

I completely agree with you on the lack of direction based on timelines. It's all over the place... I do also agree with you on the emailing once a month after the 2nd month post interview probably hasn't helped but no one told me not to. Now after the proceed to training email that states don't ask for updates and you do then you are just not being a good boy to be granted your constitutional right... Lol never the less everytime I've been nice and cool with them and sooner or later it's bound to happen....

I would think about your answers a head of time. If the officer ask have you been involved with narcotics, I would not answer when I was younger I had this issue or that issue rather I would figure out how many years it had been and answer. "not in the last 20 years"

So I have been reading a couple of posts that vehicle registration won't work for proof of residence, does it have to be utility bills only, or can things like bank statements, or other things work as well?

Just to prepare for the first interview that should hopefully come up soon for me.

They won't take dmv reg or bank statements.. I've personally tried before and they said no, that they will only accept utility bills.

Picked up today from LASD. It has been about two years from start to finish. All I can say is be patient, it will be awhile. I was there for about an hour waiting to be called and they had people coming and going for pick ups and interviews. They are moving people through as fast as they can with the staff that they have. I think it’s just the shear volume of people in the process.

Thanks for the information. Good to hear things are still moving forward and not delayed due to new sheriff in town. I'm at 19 months and counting.

The interesting thing was my letter was from Sheriff Villanueva, but my card had Luna’s name on it. The letter was dated in November which means I was approved before the swap but they weren’t able to get it to me before the election results.

They print out your permit on pickup, not when you receive the letter.

On another note, no sign of the OGs who were first issued. They may be up for renewal.

Not a typo, I applied when good cause was still needed, during my process that was struck down. Moot point, but part of my timeline to show the length it took to get my permit

I brought in a signed lease since I had just moved and had no bills yet, and they at first accepted that, then in October said it was no good and needed a bill

On another note, no sign of the OGs who were first issued. They may be up for renewal.
There were a few in this thread somewhere. If I recall correctly, they had no issues in renewal, some went longer than the 90 days than it says

Has anyone had to amend their permit due to change of address? I am possibly moving in Feb, just to another apartment unit at the same address I am currently at.
