Any thoughts on the Todd Jarrett competition class?
I see that Jarrett is doing a class in NorCal in March. Has anyone taken one of his classes before?
I hear he's really good, but I've been disappointed by another big name instructor in the past ("I can't tell you how I do it. I can only show you and you have to figure out how to do it yourself"). Want to avoid spending $650 for that again. https://practiscore.com/todd-jarrett...class/register

Meh, hes old and washed up! KIDDING! He has some good videos on YouTube that may give you an idea of his style of instruction. I picked up a few things from those when I started in competition in 2011. Seems like a cool guy.

Hot gun, hot gun!
Todd came to our workplace shortly after doing that burn down video and we kept saying this everytime we’d have a good run. A few years after the class, I was traveling and had a free weekend so I ended up shooting the local Fredericksburg USPSA match and guess who was there? And guess what I yelled out after his run? That dude talks and runs his class like he shoots. As many Alphas as possible in the shortest time possible. There’s very few wasted moments or words when he’s talking. Some things that surprised me about his class: Todd’s really big on having a much harder grip on the pistol than you think. When he gripped his support hand on my strong hand, that thing felt like a vice. It’s similar to Jerry Barnhart’s grip, who we also shot with a few months earlier. We worked a lot of entries and exits. Given that this was our job, there was a lot of crossover from competition to tactical. He’s really big on squaring up to the target to minimize recoil. That’s all I can remember from my cheese brain. Hope you get a lot out of it. |

If you've just started pistol shooting and have no match experience, take one of those TPC handgun mastery classes instead. Those guys are also really good. |

Probably not for the person who has shot only their first USPSA match (or none at all), but more for the person who has shot enough to not be super nervous anymore, but now wants to start actively improving.

Thank you for the feedback. I checked them out and they have a class at Richmond coming up, so I'll probably sign up for that.

Kilaka1184,
I tend to strongly agree with Gryff's opinion. But what the heck. Life is short. Give Todd a call. In 60 seconds both of you will know if you're a fit for the class. You don't want to miss a great class at a fantastic range such as Richmond. Last edited by hambam105; 01-19-2023 at 12:16 AM.. |
