This is a continuation of my earlier blog:

April 12, 2021 ish

This week the LASD acclaimed that they are no longer requiring a denial letter from the local PD before people can apply to them. So, I applied to LASD as well.

LASD cashed my $30 check.

I received a call from Office Penson (sp?) LAPD as my application was kicked back regarding a question for some of the documentation I provided in relation to my GC. We spoke for a few minutes, and I later called back to provide addition context / clarification. She mentioned that she thinks it's going to be approved, but will have restrictions related to my GC. We discussed briefly about the option of applying with the county, and that they would probably issue unrestricted, but that I'm pretty close to the end of the timeline with LAPD, and that I may just want to see it through. If I do end up getting denied, I can always apply with the county. She mentioned that she thinks if I get approved from LAPD, that she didn't think LASD will issue one to me as well...

I received type of form letter signed by Chief of Police Michael Moore that said my application had been denied as I did not meet his "Good Cause" requirement. Previously, my denial letter was signed by a Commander, so I think this means that I actually made it through the frontline officer, through the commander, with approvals, and it was the Chief of Police that actually denied the application. The letter had some details content about my good cause specifically. The interesting part is that this is some verbiage that indicates that only Assault Pistols / Rifles, Machine Guns, and SBRs are considered "dangerous weapons", and that only they would pose a threat to public safety.

I emailed LASD via their Contact Us form on their CCW website with the additional information about my LAPD application and received the below response a couple of hours later.

"Your application has been received. You will be contacted when your file has been assigned to an investigator."
