Default Former Vet bsing me?

I used to work at a government contractor job doing security, one of the vet's was a supervisor and the guy was a creeper.

I knew he was in the Army at one point. I specifically recall asking him what he did and his MOS was. His response " You can ask me all you want...." He just stood there in a awkward silence. He definitely had a ego him and I always didn't get along.

I saw on his resume He was stationed at Fort Stewart, GA. For 4 years, which is listed as " confidential". I know the 3rd Infantry div is stationed there so what gives???

Looking back on the whole ordeal, I can't help but laugh... I have a feeling he was bs'ing me big time. Especially now that I'm in the military. If he said intel, ok fine not a big deal. But no response???

I’m “Intel” and I can always put “something” on a resume. Hell, just cut and paste the MOS description from the Army Recruitment website. He’s a loser.

Ask him why he was discharged with an other than honorable discharge. I'm guessing that's what happened.

Sounds like he feels a certain unseverable connection if he acts like he is secret squirrel.

Very, very, very few MOSs if any warrant anything like what you are describing. Sounds to me like he is a wanna be douche bag. He was prolly a cook or Motor T grease monkey but wants the valor of Spec Ops crew without having to say it. Almost like his silence leads you to believe he was something special...total reverse psychology.

Do a Spokeo search on him and see how secret squirrel he really is.

Good point. Yeah, he liked to intimidate people he made it seem like he was a secret squirrel 4 years, he might have been lucky to make SPC. or a NCO. Hardly what he portrayed himself to be.

Why can people not just be happy doing what they do and not embelish their service? If you are not proud of your service, don't tell people about it, but don't lie about it either.

Sounds like BS.

The military does not "classify" MOS's, nor does it classify a member's "Service Record." If anyone makes either claim, then it's a pretty sure "BS Alert."

There a good example of the former point with the Navy Seals. Until just a few years ago, SEALS came from general Navy ratings (what the Navy calls their occupational specialties). They kept their original ratings while serving as a SEAL. That caused a lot of problems. If the SEAL had started out as a cook, and had been a SEAL for 10 years, every time he would go to take the servicewide exam to advance, they would test his knowledge on making muffins and other cook stuff, completely ignoring the work done as a SEAL. The Navy finally got wise and created a new rating (SO) for the SEALS, in part so they could more appropriately manage a SEAL's career. There's nothing classified about it. If you look at any document listing the member's rating, the "SO" will clearly indicate the member as a SEAL.

Or if you look at it another way, a member's service record is used for so many different purposes, there's no way the military is going to allow the record to be "classified" in any way.

When military members do receive orders to perform a classified function, that's normally done using "For further assignment" language. The unclassified order will temporarily assigned the member to the functional unit "For further assignment" without describing the duties to be performed. Those duties can be performed within whatever "veil of secrecy" applies.

The second BS indicator is the use of "Intelligence." I worked intelligence assignments early in my career, and was a heavy user of intelligence services following my post 9/11 recall to active duty (no ninja stuff, I was a Coast Guard officer assigned to a major Navy Group command staff and deployed to the mid-east on Sept 14th). When you think of a military intelligence person, forget the movie stuff. You're going to find a person who either lives in an office, of if they're deployed in a comfortable portable workspace. Their world is pretty much computers and imagery. It's an a highly analytical job (well past the point of ignoring the value of human intelligence - something the military had to come to grips with after 9/11). Intel folks gives great support, but they're support people, they're not at the pointy end of the spear as some of the BS folks would have you believe.

The third BS indicator is boastful conduct. With very few, and very notable, exceptions, you just don't see this from folks who are legit. It's part of the professional pride thing. If someone tells you, without having been asked, that they're "special" in some way, take what's gonna follow as BS.

I was fortunate enough to spend all of my deployed time working in relatively comfortable rear-area settings, but I also worked in the company of many others who did some very incredible and challenging things during their service. I'll always respect their willingness to sacrifice. Their sense of honor speaks for itself. At the same time, that experience simply adds to my contempt for those who are fakes.

If he were CIA or another secret agency, he would still have a MOS listed.
Cook, clerk, mechanic. Something that would allow him to have a reason to be where he would go to practice his primary craft. Let it go, everyone wants to be important these days. Did he ever say, I would tell you but I would have to kill you?
On the other side of this, beware of the guys that say they were part of a three letter agency and tells you about the top secret missions they were on.

What makes me laugh is that he listed his work experience as "Confidential"... one of the lowest levels of classified material.

Who cares about his mos????

If he is a good guy today, that is good

If he is a jerk today, then avoid like the plague.

The hiring manager can review is discharge paperwork to verify what he did or did not do in prior jobs and with Uncle Sam.

If some guy is a jerk who claims to have been a seal, then he is just a jerk today.

Move on.

I agree (for the most part) with the stuff i didn't quote, however, this does not accurately depict my MOS.

I'm just going off the Army site. 15 series fixes things that fly:

Look for drone or Uav operator
Basically what was left of Romeos got pretty much their choice of mos to reclassify, the ones I personally know mainly went to 35, then a few went to uav operator which I thought just recently told me was 15 something, I do know of others that went to electronics repair but before the reclass, one even went to eod

If I had a nickle for every vet who was in Devgru or Force Recon...

I work in Industrial Security after retiring from the Navy. I meet all kinds. But mostly people who are honest and say they pushed a broom or turned a wrench when they were in. As Terminal Lance can attest... Most of the time in the Military we were just bored standing watch and playing X-Box.

I can say I was stationed at ft Ord for 4 and a half years, and I was physically on ft Ord for less than 6 months accumulative, and most of that was just prior to ETS

We didn't have xbox or internet, but a gameboy with Tetris was good, and D&D even

Oh, and I'm not trying to say I was super top secret squirrel anything
Just saying not all MI was rear echelon
I know a few 35F that wasn't either
I was a Romeo and a Manchu, and have my Manchu belt buckle too

haha, we even had EOD wash outs come into 35 since they already had the clearance.

Yah, that's why most of the Romeos were encouraged to go that direction (some select MOSs), because of the clearance we had we could move right in

I was actually flattered by a comment from someone accusing me of 'posing'
I was wearing a set of my BDUs (paintball), a guy there commented to his friend "I bet that's not his", his friend responded "no, he's not old enough for it to be his", the guy answering was wearing a colonel rank and a medic corp insig, and a 2id patch, I turned and said I was on rs4, where was he, he looked baffled.. I stopped there, and went on to having fun
I was flattered he thought I was too young

Very, very, very few MOSs if any warrant anything like what you are describing. Sounds to me like he is a wanna be douche bag. He was prolly a cook or Motor T grease monkey but wants the valor of Spec Ops crew without having to say it. Almost like his silence leads you to believe he was something special...total reverse psychology.

Do a Spokeo search on him and see how secret squirrel he really is.
Yea screw those motor T guys! They're a bunch of douches!
