Thats all good and fine, and I hope its legit, but what is the pres doing to make sure this is an attainable goal? Just to come out and make that statement holds no water unles he has signed some executive order that gives additional funding to an already overtaxed system, and quite frankly, I dont see that happening, so its all really just window dressing for him. He gets to say "make this happen", and then say that he tried when it doesnt.

Our vets deserve much much better, I am still shocked that we give more to illegals (yes I know, "Im a racist" for that) than we do to the men and women that served this country.

Remove the backlog? Easy! Just like applying for disability - they just deny every initial request and make the individual appeal the decision. Thanks POTUS for fixing the problem - the VA just needed to be told to do their jobs faster. How about providing extra resources to accomplish the task?

I have been retired for a YEAR this week and I still don't have my first determination letter.

It does not sound like they have been denying claims...

Sounds like they may be overwhelmed with requests and enrollments.

This article is over a year old and I am sure the numbers have increased since that time.

Look up Jon Stewarts The Red Tape Diaries. He does a pretty good job of showing how it has been failing for years.

They need better automation - and not by the people who did the obamacare site lol.

Now, we also have veteran service organizations who know what they are doing, attorneys, lawyers, people who understand the system. You put it in place, but the admins seem to complain when people utilize it.

The VA is a joke. I had a slam dunk claim that took me 6 years to win. The appeals judge who awarded my claim gave a scathing review in his decision, but also said the local VA should not be punished because no malicious intent could be proven.

All the times they claimed to have lost records, not received stuff I had sent them etc... It's a big game, and they are hoping Vets just give up. And as far as Obama is concerned, like others have said, he does not give a ****. Stay in the fight, it's all you can do.

Does anyone know what congressmen i should write for my VA claim. I call the VA every week seeing if i have appointments or anything waiting on me and they always say no, i received my final raiting and 8 our of the 10 claims are listed as "did not show up to appointment" or something like that. This is total B.S.

1 out of the 2 remaining claims i still waiting notes from the doctor the had the appointment with me.. these notes have been requested 3 times and he has not responded in 4 months...

The straw that broke the camels back was today when i called the VA to see if the doctor has done anything, i received attitude for the lady i spoke with at the VA and saying i was wasting her time by asking.

Obama had lied to us all. It's repugnant to play politics with peoples lives. Granted he inherited a huge backlog but here was his promise pre election

You could write letter to your district congress and see what happens.. I wrote letter to mine few days ago and still waiting to hear something back from him. I kept my letter short and brief (little bit of my military career and my current medical condition).

Notice POTUS's goal is to eliminate the backlog. That doesn't necessarily mean good.

He never said how to get it done. For all we know, the VA is just going to increase denial rate or give you the run around in this case. I hope that's not the case though. Stay patient my brothers and sisters, the day will come when you get the big brown envelope in the mail and your long wait will be over. "Hurry up and wait."

My file was submitted in January and it says expected results are June 2015. How are they going to reduce that backlog? just start denying.

Who knows????? The VA is known for denying everyone (their very first claim) hoping the Vet will give up. However, depending on your MOS and your deployment. The VA have very difficult time denying PTSD, depression, and other mental health condition.

I know how he will do it: The existing claims will simply be 'deleted'. Any that reapply will be new claims, with no backlog.

I am only about 25% joking too....I can really see this happening.

first brown envelope was pathetic. They are trying to just push people through and give them a 10% rating and hopping they wont dispute. I sent in a 87 page dispute letter.

My process was fairly quick compared to others (just sharing).

ETS in Feb 2013, started claim in May 2013 (I could've started claim before discharge but did not think about it until later). C&P exam in October 2013. Received brown envelope for 70% in Dec 2013. Received backpay dating back to Feb 2013 (effective date of discharge).

I've been unemployed ever since ETS so that backpay really helped. I don't mean to bring anyone's hopes up, but I expected a 2-4 year wait for my claim to be completed, but only took less than a year. I didn't really have any evidence to contribute other than my military treatment records, which the VA already got. Nor did I get any buddy affidavits signed.

Same hurry up and wait game, but outside the military. Take care guys, and the day will come...
