Default G-Shock GW-9400

Looks like there is no need for the pathfinders any more.

quick question, since it is getting the exact time from an atomic clock what happens during a SHTF and the atomic clock goes down? Would it not be able to tell time anymore?

You will just have to set it yourself and manually update when the time zone changes.

I bought the green one but couldn't see it outside so I returned it. I've been looking for a black one.

I wondered about that. I wish they made a green and fde in white face. Black it is then. How did you like the watch?

I have the 9200 which is the same without the compass from what I can see and like it. Some things are different of course. One thing I noticed is that in order to get a true temp rating the watch must be taken your wrist and set somewhere for approx 15 minutes to get a true reading otherwise your bodytemp affects it.

I liked it a lot. I tried out all the features but I'm not sure how to use a barometer or altimeter. The compass and thermometer were nice and worked. It was also comfortable. Yeah, if the green one came with a positive display I would've kept it.

I bought one of GW-9400's in OD Green last year:

http://www.ocabj.net/casio-g-shock-rangeman-gw-9400-3cr-review/

It's a pretty nifty watch. I wear it to the range and when doing outdoor/garage chores and don't want to wear a mechanical watch.

I didn't update / add an addendum to my review, but the thermometer feature is affected by body heat. This was my first G-Shock with the 'Pathfinder' features, and my friend who has quite a few G-Shocks told me to keep an eye on the body heat issue.

I have the PRW-2500 (Protrek) and I've never considered the body heat affect on the thermometer as "an issue". Thermometers are affected by their environment, the closer they are to a heat source the higher temperatures they're going to read.
That being said, I've had mine for a little over 2 years, it's my literal every day watch. I wear it to work (office), I wear out (casually), I wear it to formal events (suit & tie), and I've never felt that it was weird or out of place.

OK so I went down to Macy's and tried the watch on. Its about the same size as my proterk maybe a tiny bit bigger.

Pros:

Alarm is louder then my protrek
100 hour stop watch (protrek is 1 hour)
Shows date, day of week and year all on top of screen
Nice look to it

Cons:
It had not "synced" with the atomic time since 1-14-14 (so reception inside the store isnt working).
Nit-picky small one, must cycle through bar/alt/compass instead of having a button for each.
Inside buttons are really low and seem small to my large fingers. Hard to push button at 7:00 without pinching arm hair and and skin (same complaint with my protrek).
Seems to have a sharp edge under the front extension part facing your wrist. When you bend wrist up it digs in. (could be fixed with small file or sandpaper)
TIME number size is smaller then my protrek
Barometer did not match what my protrek said (throwing off altimeter) (Off by .10)
The price of 300 is nuts! (I would pay 200) (my protrek with same features was 115)

As far as the atomic syncing, it does need to have some direct line of sight to the sky (e.g. window) to be reliable.

With regards to price, I agree that $300 is a bit much. Macy's often has a 25% off sale, which is how I ended up getting mine.

Sweet! I love the green but stayed away due to the low light visibility reviews but damn that's sexy.

I picked it up in black from Ebay for $269 shipped.

I bought the watch and love it! All the features are great and so many functions. My only issue is the altimeter. I read the instructions (or dictionary) and understand the altitude sensor can be influenced by temperature and atmospheric pressure etc.

Does anyone who has the watch have this issue?

I routinely "re-set" the altitude to my current altitude but I feel like it only reads accurately a small portion of the day.

Thank you for your thoughts.

Alt is influenced by baro pressure. When I skydive or fly airplanes I am constantly adjusting my needles to compensate for baro pressure change.

+1, the altimeter is the same way it takes about 15 minutes to calibrate itself.

Love this watch! I was using the pathfinder for a while. It's now in the drawer.
