Default are these "GI issue" kneepads any good?

http://www.amazon.com/Military-Knee-...=cm_cr_pr_pb_t

How hard are they to put on and do they 'stay put'? Can they be used without putting on, just as pads on the floor?

I've never found a pair I liked, and I've got $7 plastic and $49 leather.

PS-I've got some street hockey goalie pads on order.

Eh if they are anything like pads I've been issued, they won't stay put without some duct tape. If not, they eventually make good ankle pads....

Garbage, the only decent knee pads I've ever used are the Arc'Teryx ones and the Crye Precision ones that go into the special pockets on the combat pants meant for them.

Only knee pads I ever had work were the sleeve style ones, like Troy Lees, slipped underneath the pants.

Don't accept as gospel any equipment chosen by the military. Some of it is good and some of it is junk bought to appease lobbyists. The gear you want has to WORK for YOU on your DIME. Roll2li is right. Test sports and work gear designed to perform.

If you played high school football, you know what knee pads work when in action, and which pads are POS.

If they issued kneepads in the 90's I could have done my 20 years.

The only kneepads I found to be slightly comfortable and actually stay on my knees are Alta kneepads http://www.skdtac.com/Alta-Superflex...-p/alt.602.htm The Alta lock beats velcro everytime and they aren't as hot and bulky as those Bijan made issued ones you're looking at.

I remember these. They were kinda bulky, thick, and warm as hell. Theyre not comfy to wear either. No bueno

They worked ok for me, but for them to stay in place I remember having to tighten them down to the point of slight discomfort, and often re tightening.

I would say that in Afghanistan I was glad to have them despite their drawbacks, but as mentioned by others I'm sure there are better options out there from sporting goods or construction work.

Arcteryx kneepads are the best hands down. I've done countless patrols with them and they work great and are minimalist.

+1 on the Arcteryx knee pad (they call them knee caps..). Super light, flexible, stays put. Only knee pad I've ever used that hasn't immediately been tossed in the garbage or given back. Mine was issued but I would pay for them out of my own pocket..

When did you play football? I have never seen football kneepads that you strapped on they are always in the pants.

Volleyball kneepads work very well, or you can turn your pants inside out and shove some isomat in the back side of the stitching.

I use skate board knee pads that stay put, are flexible and have 2" Velcro straps.
Don't know the name.

Had/have a set of Hatch pads and loved them, but we were mostly urban ops.
