Default Saw the most disrespectful thing i've ever seen at ASR today.

I've been going to ASR for awhile, I live less than 4 miles away.

Often times I see people complaining about range officers and staff and i've never had a bad experience with them.

Today at about 4pm a cease fire was called. People went out to set up their targets as normal. It being a weekend, 200 yards is the maximum distance you can set up your target. A man continued walking past the 200 yard berm and onto the 300 yard, as he was almost there the RO began yelling on the mic that he could not set up his target that far.

The man was elderly in his 60's, white hair. The wind was blowing toward the line at about 7-8mph with gust up to about 15 mph. I doubt the man heard the RO, he continued on about his business and set up his target.

At this point, the RO took one of the utility vehicles, drove to the 300 yard range where the man had set up his target, put it in the vehicle and drove down the road, leaving the man at the 300 yard line. when he reached 200 yards, he THREW the mans target out of his vehicle onto the dirt and drove back to the line. Leaving the elderly man to pick up his target and set it up at the 200 yard range.

I've never seen such disrespect toward a patron at ASR. When I mentioned it to one of the other RO's walking by, they just chuckled about it and told me the man should not have walked out that far.

1) Unless the rules were made clear at the beginning, RO needs his *** kicked.

If I witnessed that, it would be the LAST time that I ever did ANY business there.

Granted, there are always two sides to a story. Maybe words were exchanged when the RO reached the man, I dont know. But I dont see why ANYBODY would be that disrespectful to a patron, let alone an older man.

Hmmm.
I've been coming to ASR at least once a month. Almost recognize most of the ROs there. So far most of them are really nice but there is this one (younger) RO that is downright rude.

after reading the OP again I am really irritated
that S***bag RSO could have explained what's wrong, took the target, offered the man a lift to the 200 yard line, and then drive off

This is exactly what the people at the next bench over commented. If the issue with walking to the 300 yard range on a weekend is the length of cease fire, then the correct action would have been the one which would have sped up the recovery of the man to the line.

Instead, they choose to disrespect the man in front of the entire rifle line.

DELETED. Could have at least shown a little respect for your elders.

If it was me, I would have (deleted).

Customer service and respect for customers is a lost art. Along with product knowledge, and a stong work ethic.

Sign of the decaying values of our entitlement society!

Disappointing! But not uncommon.

In all honesty I cant. It was packed and I was down on the west side by the clay thrower. RSO came from the east side of the rifle line and drove up to the east side of the 300.

he was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt over his red ASR uniform though.

There is only one guy who I remember that wears the M frames. Skinny, somewhat tall guy? I've had a run-in with him before over something very stupid that was non-safety related. He's never too friendly regardless if you are completely playing by the rules. If you're reading this...dude...lighten up on occasion and crack a smile and a laugh. We're all there to be safe AND to have fun.

It's a shame if this is what the whole story is. I've never witnessed anything that I would consider out of line by any of the RSO's. ASR is my go-to range just about every time I go shooting.

Like said earlier, there's two sides to every story. Would be nice to hear the other side. But none the less that is an unacceptable way to treat a customer, I hope that someone said something to him.

GEEZUS. Have you guys never been to ASR? Many of the folks can't follow basic common sense instructions. I am always glad that they enforce the rules or it will end up as ghetto fabulous as Burro. Nobody that follows the rules gets yelled at.

If anyone has ever been to Los Altos Rod and Gun Club in Los Gatos, CA they will know what it's like to experience superior customer service at a range. RSO's set very clear safety expectations and the owners are very helpful.

Too bad more ranges cannot be like that one, especially in Southern California, as Los Gatos is about a 9 hour drive from the IE.

Bunch of young punks out there need to learn about respect for your elders. No need to treat paying customers like that. I know some people are hard of hearing but those guys yell at you like they were your real daddy. Those guys need a good Wyatt Earp slap when being disrespectful. Some day I just might do it.

I don't think anyone here is debating the rules, only how the situation was handled from the perspective of other range patrons. I don't care if any RO at any range has to yell at someone for a safety violation. This was not one of those moments and the guy made a fool of himself by acting the way did. Being calm and respectful goes a lot further than being a DB.

I've been going to ASR for years and was never made aware that there was a limit of 200 yards for targets on weekends. That's kind of BS. While some of the ROs are a little surly, it seems that isn't inappropriate when you consider the circumstances. I have seen some customers there do some stupid stuff and thankfully the RO caught it and corrected it. I remember one time when a guy kept sweeping customers with a loaded gun. The RO was downright rude to the guy, but he deserved it. Had the RO not been there and clamped down on the situation, the guy sweeping the crowd was on the hairy edge of seeing the business end of a 1911 up close and personal.

That said, it sounds like the situation in the OP was handled badly.

I would rather go to Oak Tree as it's a little closer and a nicer facility, but their rifle range is limited to 100 yards and I enjoy hitting the plates that are out a little further, so ASR is my only logical alternative.

Yes there are 2 sides to every story, but if you are that upset with a customer then ask him to leave. Being disrespectful to someone in front of a crowd is no way to act.

I know RO's see a lot of knucklehead things during their working hours, but if you cant handle your job and be courteous then find another line of work.

ive had my share of run-ins with their RSO's - most are nice and decent, some are just big time Douche Bag A-holes. I would of walked up to the manager and said something about their employees behavior.
